I just bought my Mum & Dad an android box for this purpose - mainly netflix

Depends how much you want to spend. The Nvidia shield is expensive but by far the best solution. Can also stream games from your pc if you have an nvidia gpu. The x1 cpu is also very powerful and capable of emulating pretty much everything up to gamecube. Also plays 4k blu ray rips flawlessly. If you don't want to spend as much then some of the chinese android tvs from aliexpress and the like are also good for the price. If you just want to watch netflix, youtube etc then consider a chromecast.
