ATM in Vanuatu / New Caledonia or Cash exchange Brisbane?

Hi all,

Heading off on a South Pacific cruise. Just after info regarding the best place for cash exchange. I have both 28 Degrees and Citibank Plus cards for transactions, but no cash (Vatu, XPF).

I remember Port Villa had a good exchange, but our first stop is Champagne Bay.

Is there any good exchanges near the Brisbane Airport?

Cheers

  • Alot of places accept oz dollars. When I was in vila I just used 28 degrees in duty free and their were also westpac and anz atms in the main strip. Just bet would to just to wait till you get there.

  • Yeh we recently came back on most places do AUD. Even just buying a beer they convert for you.

  • Cheers, my only concern is our first stop in Champagne Bay where I want to take a taxi to Matevulu Blue holes, or do the taxi's take AUD now as well?

If we went to Villa first it would be fine. Might just cop it on the chin and grab $100 worth of Vatu at the Airport.

    • Everywhere we went, even the tiny Isle of Pines took AUD. And the taxis definitely do. Bear in mind that these economies thrive on tourism and cruise ships are a huge huge part of that.
We also got a 'water taxi' (ie some guys boat) and they quoted our fare in AUD.

  • just came back as well. like others say, AUD is accepted every where.
Carry AUD is better than USD. Eg. A round the island trip in Isle of Pine is AUD $25 per person (get the one with the Merc Van), or USD$20 (equivalent of AUC$30+).
Brough lots of small notes ($5, $10) with few coins (for the cave visit $2 per head - optional) - handy.

  • Can I ride along on this thread a little?

I am about to head to Hawaii and mainland USA and just got my 28 degrees and Citibank Plus card.

    Anyone have user tips?

Our plan was to top up the Citibank card with savings cash and withdraw USD while using the 28 degrees for credit transactions.

For the OP I found it was the MoneyPass ATM network that was most commonly present where we travel

    • +1

From memory when we were in Hawaii we did something similar, using credit card where possible. Our bank charged a flat rate atm withdrawal fee so it was the same ($5?) overseas atm withdrawal fee whether you did $20 or $600. So we tried to just do one big withdrawal.
