Hi I've sent an express parcel on 30th December in the morning. And the parcel arrive 2 business day later which is on the 4th of Jan. I called them asking them why does it not arrive on 31st December as it is not a public holiday. They told me the government gives australian post a national holiday exclusively to them every year and it is 31st december this year and thus i cannot get a refund on my postage for slow delivery.(australia express post guarantee next business day delivery) Is this true? Not only is Australia post increasing their price every year to a point where it is soo expensive to mail an item in home country , don't you also find the price are really expensive. And they are also the monopoly of the postal service.

Yup, can confirm that's the case. It might not be the 31st every year but it's always around the Xmas / New Year.
should add.
Tue 29 Dec Open Deliveries Posting an Express Post item? Next guaranteed day of delivery* is Monday 4 January.
Wed 30 Dec Open Deliveries Posting an Express Post item? Next guaranteed day of delivery* is Monday 4 January.
Yes they have a day off at the same time every year. They deserve it after working nearly everyday prior to Christmas to get everyones parcels to the destination on time.
Santa gets to take the whole year off.
In the spirit of being helpful to customers, you would have thought they would have warned you about that when you dropped off the parcel on the 30th.
Maybe posted in the golden street side mailbox?
And they are also the monopoly of the postal service.
Australia Post has a monopoly over the carriage and delivery of letters up to 250 grams
If it was a parcel, you could have used a not soo expensive courier.
Another thread where a simple google search could have avoided embarassment…
As for parcels there are cheaper alternatives than Auspost
This happened to me too. I didn't realise it was a holiday but it is what it is and my parcel arrived safely to my friend yesterday so i'm grateful for that!
even if it wasnt a public holiday you'd be dumb to expect it to arrive on the 31st.. be realistic, i couldnt expect any country any service at any cost to be able to make that time frame realistically
? Express parcels have guaranteed next day delivery - you would expect it! If he'd posted it on 29th, it should have arrived 30th. He posted it 30th but 31st was holiday for them.
Sometimes they do make up stories. Like when the driver said you weren't home so had to leave a card.

In this case, it seems like a valid reason due to an authorised holiday. I try not to think that all posties are bad despite watching all the horror fedex videos.
