Vodafone New Sim Only Plan Rejected at CrazyJohn

I was looking to get a new sim only plan and after much research settled on the $19 sim only plan on a 12 month contract from CrazyJohn on the Vodafone network.

Unfortunately because I'm a full time student and not working I failed the credit check. The rep told me he would email the higher ups and see if they could take another look at my application. I was told they usually reply within 24hrs but it has been 48hrs with no reply leading me to believe I likely won't be receiving any reply.

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on what I could possibly do or if they know of a reseller or company that doesn't mind if your a student.

Thanks in advance.

Mod — updated the title to be more "meaningful".

Update: Went to see them today and the guy I spoke to the first time wasn't there but the lady that was told me that the only way to have my credit check re-assessed was to call some number. You would think that working on commission they would be trying their best to sign up as many people as possible instead of just pawning them off.

  • Can you pay up front in full? Then your credit history doesn't matter, I would think.

  • You could try optus's 12month contract? I've heard them advertising about it - Not sure if its better value or whatever, but since its a different provider you might have more luck =)

Worst case scenario, get your parents to sign up for you if you can haha

  • I had the same problem a few years back. I had to go get a credit card to get a mobile plan. Evidently not having debt means you are a credit risk. Makes no sense to me either…

    • having debt and not defaulting on it proves that u are financially stable, or something along the lines of that, cant think of a simpler way to put it

      • yes it sounds good in theory, but living within your means should count for more than needing credit. The system is so flawed that I couldn't get a credit card for $500 but I could have a mortgage!

  • I think 3 allows each student to hold one account with them, even if you don't have a job and are studying full time, so I'd try them.

Bill will be come via direct debit out of your bank account & no credit history check.
$10 gets you on the resold optus $49 cap

[edit].. Oh and no contract :-)

    • Umm… no it doesn't.

      Try $19.99.

  • I'm a full time student and am halfway through a 24 month contract with Virgin…I do have a credit card and a casual job too though…that said they didn't seem too concerned about anything when I signed up.

  • I know this isnt helpful. But my first mobile plan (1999) was in both me and mums name cos I was the same position. then when I got a job, I transferred it over to just me. I guess they suggested this to you, but youre not keen on it.

    • Actually they didn't suggest anything of the sort.
