Any Cheap Private Health Insurance for Tax Purpose?

My husband is with Medibank and never made any claims for the last 15 years.

Our son is two and half.

I have never have a private health insurance before and I am 32 years old.

I have used public hospital for giving birth to my son.

Not sure what is the benefit you can get from private health insurance?

Is it already too late to purchase it to avoid medicare surcharge levy for financial year 15-16?

You will pay a pro rata amount based on how long you have had insurance for in any one financial year, for example if you take out insurance on 1/2/16 then you will pay 5/12ths of what would have been the full amount.

Frank Insurance is cheaper (I think that's what it's called), basically insurance with little or no benefits designed to get around the idea that paying this is cheaper than paying the surcharge.
