eBay Cashback 4.4% Sitewide @ Cashrewards (Please Read Post)

3810

It’s the New Year and the team at Cashrewards thanks each and every member for your continued support. We are in awe of how much our community has grown in the past 12 months. We've been able to offer some incredibly whacky rates on cashback for eBay - Australia’s biggest shopping website.

We recently received news from eBay stating the amount of cashback that Cashrewards (or any other cashback site or points program) will be able to offer will be reduced to around 1.00%. There is unfortunately nothing we can do to change this, but Cashrewards & eBay will be working closer than ever to bring you the best offers and promotions going forward.

With your help, we will become the largest community of shoppers in Australia, and the Cashrewards team will work harder than ever to ensure your loyalty is rewarded with the best deals, coupons and cashback offers anywhere on the planet!

With this in mind, we want to go out with a bang and offer a great cashback rate of 4.4% on eBay Australia sitewide for two days only. Rest assured this will never be repeated, as beyond January 6 at 3pm AEDT the rate will drop to around 1.00%.

We recently received news from eBay stating the amount of cashback that Cashrewards (or any other cashback site or points program) will be able to offer will be reduced to around 1.00%.

The greed of ebay never ceases to amaze me. Their constant changes over the years have been mostly DUMB. Like turning what was largely a conversational community into a heavily-restricted exercise in frustration - so people stopped communicating - and turned it into a place where people only go - sometimes - when they want to buy stuff. OTOH, sites like facebook drew people away by offering what ebay killed off - and those people discovered other places to shop. So no reason to return to ebay!

    People left in droves.

Yet ebay continues in the same sillyness. Instead of going back on some of those changes, they still focus on wringing every last dollar out of the people that BRING THEM MONEY, and wonder why their business is a shadow of what it once was.

They haven't figured out it's better to have 20 people (and that number increasing), but making less per person… than it is to squeeze every cent you can out of 5 and in the process make them hate your business. (The moment they learn of an alternative - one by one - they leave.)

  • Good deal but e bay sucks.

  • +3

Tightarse… Cash Rewards and other reward sites should just tell eBay to shove it if they are only prepared to offer 1%.

I look forward to TA making more direct deals with suppliers that do not use eBay. I have purchased many specials posted by TA and I have been happy with the service I have got from your partners/contacts.

Keep up the good work! Happy new year too!

  • Hi TA, I recently got a missing transaction worth over $1000 last week when you had 4% cashback. I submitted an enquiry but do you think if I send you the details it could be sorted out much quicker?

    • +3

Yes. Next time TA meet his boss Andrew at CashRewards. He will present your case and ask him to pay you straight away. He will fight for you, or even quit his job there if he doesn't agree to pay you.

Do you really expect TA will do this ? He will most likely forward your details to another 'black holes' investigation department.

      • Hi Orpheus, may I know why is that?

      • +19

Hi Orpheus. I could go back through every CR post, and find a comment from you stating exactly the same thing each time, yet not once have you bothered to PM me to investigate your issue. Now that I'm on the inside looking out, it kills me when I see comments like yours. You should know by now I wear my heart on my sleeve and I can tell you that Andrew and his team are as genuine & transparent as they come. I'd even be happy to personally take you through our office and show you exactly how we operate. Why don't you send me your details, including CR email address and invoice screenshots and give me a chance to fix your problem. We're here to help you resolve genuine claims, and more importantly to retain you as a member. Nothing would please me more than to win you over.

        • Probably works for your competitor. He got shut down by other users who posted their transactions in the thousands.

          Don't worry about him.

        • Hi TA, appreciate you take note on my question and a prompt reply to Orpheus. So emm… would you be able to look into the missing transaction for me?

        • @wildstone: Hi. When did you make the purchase? From your comment above, seems it's less than 7 days ago. If it's been more, please PM me your CR email address and a screenshot of your invoice. Thanks.

        • +1

          @tightarse:

Hi TA, it's from last week so yes it's less than 7 days ago, but all my other purchases like about 5 of them that I did last week as well has been tracked, so I am concern this one have been missed. So happens this out of the rests is the biggest transaction amount so I am quite concerned. Okay will email you the details if it still does not get tracked by say next week?

        • do you think you can check if cashback from hotels.com.au is ever work? not specific for me, but on behalf of everyone who buys hotels.com.au vouchers through CR

      • Try using Microsoft Edge, it tracks every time for me. I've had times where it wouldn't track and CR says can't find transactions when I was using chrome.
Switched to Edge this year when using CR, no issues at all.

  • Would it now be worth it to use Qantas mall, velocity shop and earn or even flybuys store?

    • Yes,some online stores like Apple and Kogan rebate are only available on these websites.

  • WHY! I purchased something at 2.5% just before this is posted… sadfacepanda

    • +6

What a sad comment. Real shame you don't take me at my word. Why would I make this up?

        • +7

          Enjoy your night.

          @tightarse:

          Don't forget to clock off.

        • +8

@stemcell: TA done more for Ozbargain then you could ever aspire too, show some respect.

  • +4

1.00%.!@??? thats not even worth using this anymore

    • -2

If you are planning to buy from eBay anyways, why throw away 1%? As an Ozbargainer, I don't understand what this is trying to prove (or disprove). Sounds like a case of cutting your face spite your nose?

      • because their are other crashback sites if not better ones with a lot more cashabck?

        • +1

Just wait until all other sites follow suite with this new limit imposed by ebay too.

        • @unco: ooooooooooooooooooooo wow cheapo ebay …they have selling fees they should just keep this.

  • All my purchases from ebay through cashreward have been tracked properly for the last 3 months of my membership. $10-$800. Always put the items I wanna buy into my watchlist first, go through CR then pull the items out of my watchlist.
On another note, look like ebay wanna kill off this affiliate program, they are too popular to need this imo. They will probably save a bunch and may pass it on to the sellers and ultimately the buyers. Boycotting seems a bit premature, isnt it??

  • +1 for Cashrewards

It's a shame that eBay will be going to the 1% cashback though. $10 back on a $1000 purchase isn't that amazing….

    • -6

Better $10 in your pocket than ebay's? Unless of course you like to throw money away..? Again echoing my comment above, don't cut your face spite your nose. Just sayin'.

      • Isn't it traditionally "Cutting off the nose to spite the face"?

For high value purchases, I think it'll be easier to get a larger discount in a physical store or alternative online stores. That way, eBay gets nothing in their pocket and I retain the savings.

I'll continue to use eBay for low value items, like phone cases from China, or for things that are hard to find in Australia.

  • +8

Screw ebay they lost $1000 in my cart by ending that 15% early and it all went to Amazon.

  • I could understand if they reduce the cashback/commission to 1% if its stacked with another promo (similar to how Orbitz and some other sites operate when a coupon code is used), but not your general run of the mill purchase at full cop.

    • I believe eBay's lack of profits has something to do with cutting the cashback %. Or it might be that Cashrewards is getting too popular and everyone has started using it, meaning less for the 'bay.

  • +5

280 votes for .4%? And news that it's going to 1%? Strange.

    • I'd say the votes are "protest against ebay" votes

      • Fair enough. Rightly so.

  • Cashreward should only get the bonus from eBay as a sole referrer (doing the hard work) but most of the referring duties were done by Ozbargainer. We only use the cashreward link after we have found what we wanted. It shoulder be the other way around.

  • +4

Depends how you guys use your QFF points, but now that its only 1% cashrewards on ebay, heres an alternative option.

    https://onlinemall.qantaspoints.com/info/81336/15658/ebay/af…

using qantas' online mall, you get 2 QFF points per $1. They've calculated QFF's points true value and if you spend it on the shit on their online store, its <1c per point. If you spend it on flight upgrades and flights, the values can go upwards of 4c per point, which if you think about it is 8c per $1 so roughly 8%. Correct me if i'm wrong

  • +1

The guys are pretty good at the cash rewards. 98% of the times the transaction gets registered, a couple of times when it didn't. They came through and manually assigned the transaction to the account.

Keep up the good work CR.

  • -4

    1% is better than zero

    • and not as good as 4%

  • +2

    Thanks TA 👍

Just bought a mattress off ebay and got decent cash back.

Such a shame Ebay is forcing you guys to do this but thanks for the great Ebay deals. I use cashrewards for plenty of other things besides Ebay purchases .. so this won't affect me much.

Keep up the great cash rewards deals 👍

  • +1

…I am so sad… I bought something literally 7 hours ago via CashRewards, and it was 2.5%… le-sigh… at least it wasn't too expensive.

BTW, if I have a gift voucher, does CashRewards use the full amount, the amount I paid, or invalid with a gift voucher? (The Amaysim $25 one)

  • -2

1% or 4% doesn't matter when it adds up to 0% anyway because hardly anything tracks.

Support must be on holidays too because a week later and no reply.

Cash rewards was a great idea but i can do without the disappointment.

  • Have a New Year's Day transaction unlike normal not come through. . ! I suspect one of those posted malware removal bargains guarding the OS. BUT > assume eBay got your site referer being on the record/Chrome incl. when possible CR cookies (rightly) fell off (unintentionally)?

any recovery for honestly forgetting to turn off these protectors, ta?

  • +2

Time to bring Amazon to Australia.

  • Somewhat off-topic… just noticed Strawberry net is now offering 8% cash back on Cash Rewards… used to be 2.5%. I'm happy with that (although… maybe, the same items I bought on Strawberry net might have been cheaper on ebay). However, I'm a little iffy about the "genuineness" of the perfume on ebay sometimes, so I went with Strawberry net in this instance. Was still cheaper than buying at full RRP @ DJs or Myers.

  • +2

Problem with cash rewards is that they take forever to pay.

Also had the same problem as others.. bigger amounts never get paid, only when you contact cash rewards miraculously the matter is solved in 2 days.

Eg cheap small rebates are fine $2-$10

Bigger rebates $20 and above stay for 4-6 months…………

    • +1

Yup can't be helped. They keep your money for interests and pay you back later.

Just think of it that way. And do not ever take the cashreward dollars into account when you purchase something because you do pay that full price upfront while wait for few months minimum to get some money back.

When you get the cashback you will be like "cool I finally get those amounts" or "where was that from? Oh a purchase that was done 4-6 months back."

  • ive been an active ebayer, both buyer and seller, for over 10 years now, but i agree, the new pricing system, especially for the seller, just doesnt make it worth it. however with the low dollar, buying from overseas is no longer as attractive as it used to be, so we dont have much choice anymore. gumtree while free, can be an annoying experience.

    • Agreed, and I'm in the same boat, been trading actively on Ebay for the last 5-6 years as a home user with about 500 +ve feedbacks. I've been trying to look for an alternative to Ebay and Gumtree but find myself keep going back. While www.quicksales.com.au is free to use the site simply doesn't get enough traffic.

  • When the ebay 15% off was terminated early, I called them as I had 10 items in my cart and they said they would reimburse me the 15% to my account in about a month.

    • Yep. I got email confirmation from eBay that they will pay back the money into my Paypal account in 3 to 4 weeks. We will see.

  • +1

How about we forget all the incentives and rebates etc, and have Ebay go back to being just an auction site. Years ago, without all the 'extras' it was a good way to get what I wanted and it was purely up to me how much I spent, which was less than retail, way less dramas and resolution type issues happening.

Then, have call it say, AObay for Auction only. Just like the old days, when a man could have a drink and win or loose.

Next they upgrade Gumtree to Sbay, for …. (stop it, I know what you're thinking) Shop only. Then if I want to take a punt, have a bit of fun and wait I have AO… and if I want to buy something at full tilt now, I have S…

I think I will stop here…. No, I missed the %15 and wrote to CR but I am not worthy of a response it seems. I took my money, did a few more searches, fond the exact items on a different promo, and paid the same as if with free shipping. So, my loyalty to CR and Ebay is (I buy and sell)severly eroded, and my not even be of any real value. Also when I can use flybuys for eshops, wait for the bonuses to appear, and hit them, and so far as good if not better that CR.

I don't need the discounts or offers, I want them, it is a bit of fun and there is some satisfaction too, therefor I can and still do, SHOP AROUND. If I can't afford it, I don't get it, simples.

    • Correct. I've used flybuys eshops and Qantas for ebay purchases without fail, but CR seems to be the odd one out with their no-enquiry policy for eBay.

      Not biting again, thanks.

  • +1

I can't help but to think this might even end BEFORE 3pm 6th Jan tmr. Seeing what eBay has done before and probably would screw us over again and again

  • +1

    just spent $6.5, thanks!

  • Cash rewards is a hit and miss. Did not receive cash back for my recent purchase.

  • For everyone saying their eBay purchases do not track, I've had a great experience chatting with CR over Facebook and they 'dipped' into their own pockets and paid commission on the items missed once I sent over my invoices through their website.

    • +1

That's lucky…I've sent over a stackload of invoices over the last year and just got the 'tough luck' response, or no response at all.

  • 1% is just terrible, and never to be repeated 4% is just depressing. Meaning no hope for it to ever rise again. Annoying

  • Anyone know what the maximum cash back amount is for a single transaction if there is a limit at all?

  • +1

I'm surprised so many people are missing CR cashbacks for eBay. Mine have always come through. The last one within hours.

  • What's with saying the cash back will drop to "around" 1%

    It's 1% . is it not ?

    • Do or do not Luke, there is no try! ;-\

  • shopandmint still have 3.5% cashback on Ebay-au purchases. They had 4% promo recently.
    https://www.shopandmint.com/au/

    • TA said after 6/1/2015 3PM, let see what is happening after 3Pm

      • Just emailed S&M to ask. Will post reply probably tomorrow I guess.

  • Ebay will never lose to customers, and they must have realised how much $ they were losing in this Cash Rewards thing, with Ebay good things never last. They are a money making machine, you only need to look at their fee increases. I might try and see what Qantas points give with Ebay purchases, may be better through that site.

  • Just bought $1575 worth of items (with a promised 15% back from the botched promotion last week). Let's see if CR's actually comes through!

  • CR you did it,dropped to 1%!

However,we can still get 2.4% cashback(normal rate) from Pink, which is managed by your Team too:)

    • It's 1.00% across the board. You were maybe looking at a cached page?

      • You guys just changed,was 2.4% before I posted.Anyway,it does not matter:)

  • Going to do some calculations to see if it's more worth buying EBay via Qantas Frequent Flyer website now. Anyone have any idea if that will be more worthwhile reward?

    • yes it is worth it.

2 points for every $1 is the current rate at Qantas.

A $25 JB Hi-Fi gift card is currently going for 4350 points.

That means that you must spend $2175 to get a $25 gift card.

At cashrewards current cashback rate, $2175 only gets you $21.75.

  • +2

I never had any success with cash rewards. I have used it for purchasing over $6000 worth of goods on eBay and despite following all the tips on their website and trying 2 different computers the only purchases that were tracked were 2 low value ones. I ended up with $10 of credit rather than over $200 that I should have received :(

Good thing about the drop in reward is I won't continue to get my hopes up then get let down

  • +4

At the moment still getting 2% @ http://pricepal.com.au/eBay-Australia and 3.5% @ https://www.shopandmint.com/au/view_retailer.php?id=86 though shopandmint caps it to 3% for purchases on TV's, Laptops and Mobiles.

    • I am sure CR will bounce back at some point, mostly in line with eBay promotion.

  • Hey guys, Cash Rewards just sent an email saying the cashback rate is now 2%. We have to take our hats off to them, they are doing this out of their own budget and it will cost them money in the process.
Let's take a moment to reflect on how Cash Rewards has helped us, we essentially got free money.
The reps Andrew and TA have been nothing short of helpful as well.
Factor all this in together and Cash Rewards is clearly the leader and the best in the rebate business.

    • As per my post above shopandmint still at 3.5% except Tv's, laptops and mobiles which is 3%.

  • BEWARE GUYS!
I only received 2.5% cash back for an item I bought during 4.4% cash back.

Just emailed them and see if I need to neg this.

    • +2

Why the warning and threat of a neg? You're the first person to make a complaint on this thread about receiving anything less than 4.4%. PM me your CR email address & screenshot of invoice please and I'll sort it out for you.

      • I appreciate your quick response, it's just a small amount and I've already emailed them so I don't want to trouble you over it.

It's not a threat, those are just the steps I'm taking and alerting others to pay attention when checking their email and also use a calculator to double check the cash back.

        • It's ok, I've found your ticket anyway. Leave it with me.

        • @tightarse:
          Hahah thanks!
          Seriously it's not urgent.

          Enjoy your weekend!

      • hey TA, can you sort mine out as well… just sent u the details then. cheers

        • I'm onto it now. I'll PM you in a few minutes. So much for my weekend lol :(

        • :O you deserve the arvo off mate, cheers
