Found these in a clearance bin along with a few other titles. I'm not sure what the story is but as seen they were previously marked at $53. They redeem fine, points are converted to local currency after redemption.
This should also work on the Microsoft store (ie. app store in Windows) as the two are merged now.

If http://www.microsoftstore.com lets you use your existing account balance for purchases of hardware then the answer would be yes. I just threw a Surface into my cart and went to the checkout and there was no indication of my $47.50 being able to be used so I assume it's not possible. Someone may know otherwise.
Correct, you cannot use to buy hardware.
Which store did you find these at?
This was the Adelaide CBD store, I got the last 2 that were at that location and have redeemed one already (hence I can confirm they still work)
Presumably if you can find stock in any other location the price will be the same, I'm not sure how HN do their pricing (ie. per store, statewide or nation-wide)Thanks, will have a look at my local tonight.
Can they be used to purchase xbox gold live?
I think any balance in your account could be used to purchase gold. It's worth mentioning they also have (3+1 months) of Gold for $12 in the same bin, It's Gears of War branded and comes with a Gun DLC for the game also. I think 4 months for $12 is a good price for Gold too? Not as good as buying these point cards and then using the balance to buy gold of course but still worth picking up.
Nah you can't buy gold with prepaid currency.
really!?!? that's so strange… why would they have such a strange policy where you can add more money into your account which you can't use to buy their online services from…. i just put in some money to buy a game while it was on sale and thought i might as well put in a bit extra thinking i could later use it to get xbox live gold… guess my assumption was wrong!?!??! :(
No you can't, how sad is that?
I thought MS said these expired long ago?
I've redeemed one already so I can assure you they still work. Further to this they still sell them on their own website. http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Xbox360/Accessories/XboxLIVE/xboxl… and here http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Xbox360/Accessories/XboxLIVE/xboxl…
Yep, they're not selling anymore but they can be redeemed - they just get converted to the correct currency in $ amount.
If you follow the "buy" links you listed, they just go to the general "microsoftstore.com" site as the listings are long gone.
Just going on their news almost 3 years ago, seemed they wanted the credit associated with them expiring on 1 June 2015.

No idea why I need to be negged.
None at Mt Gravatt or McGregor in QLD… both said they haven't stocked them in a year or so…
Note: converting MS Points -> $ value adds a 12mth expiry on that amount converted. However, expiring currency will be used first before other funds (eg. funds you've added from prepaid A$ cards).
Just make sure you spend it all before Jan 2016.You mean 2017, right? :p
My body must be still catching up from the long weekend. :-p
None in stock at O'Connor WA. Although there was one old 3 month XBL gold card for $19 ($29.95 RRP) next to the new ones…might indicate that they are clearing out all of the old cards nationwide?
Can they be used for hardware purchases?
