Samsung 250GB Portable SSD for $138, 500GB/$257, 1TB/$478, Plus $25 Discount @ Harvey Norman

170

Similar to previous deal when 250GB was $148 but now it is even cheaper with 250GB for $138.

This time larger capacity models are also included in the special offer - 500GB ($257) and 1TB ($478).

As posted before, you can sign up for Harvey Norman newsletter and get a $25 voucher.

This can bring the Samsung 250GB Portable SSD to just $113, but there’s a minimal spend of $150 (actually $125 with $25 deducted) to use the voucher, so you’ll need to add some other stuff for $12 (like 6x crappy notebook bags at $2 each:).

Officeworks previously discounted 250GB to the same price as HN to avoid price match, but they reverted to higher price this morning, so you can do the price match for additional 5% discount. 500GB can be price matched for $244 and 1TB for $454. For smaller drives that is more expensive than HN with $25 voucher, but not giving money to Harvey has additional feel-good value. :)

    Why are these SSD drives so big (physical size), not much smaller than normal portable drives? I would have thought they could be half the size they are now.

    • /ignore, i read it wrong and thought these were internal.

        you can remove the neg vote then?

          I didn't neg anything?

        • @wukachuka:
          Sorry bout that mate.
          I asked a genuine question and it gets negged by someone.

    • They are heaps smaller when put side by side.
      See http://images.anandtech.com/doci/8885/compared.JPG

      • That orange one must be huge cos they are not that much smaller than the normal small sized Wd or Toshiba's.
        I thought seeing sd cards can almost have the same capacity then these would be no bigger than a matchbox.

          That's a Lacie Rugged - not really a fair comparison as it's got a huge case compared to the Seagate and WD regular portables.

          @Flyingmoo:

          Oh, I know the sizing, just letting PVA know the Lacie is much bigger than a normal Portable :)

        • @nafe:
          Yep, that's what I thought, the orange one is big. The ssd are not super tiny compared to normal portable hdd, well not as small as I thought they would be.

          @Flyingmoo:
          Comparing measurements of one of my WD drives to this its about only 2cm width and length smaller and around the same depth, that's what I mean not a huge difference in size.
          Hey there's 200gig micro SD cards, I know that's slightly different tech but I just thought they would be match box size.

        • @ PVA

          That drive is aim as a strong harddrive, hence its size.

    • From my understanding these drives are a M.2 or mSATA SSD in a casing, hence the size.

      Being a proper SSD they also have a bit more circuitry than your SD/microSD card.

  • You will find Officeworks have already adjusted their prices to match Harvey Norman to avoid giving you the extra 5% price match guarantee.
