  • Just ordered 50 capsules with free shipping! thanks OP

I don't think Nespresso is a bargain by any stretch; nor is it good for the environment. A good alternative for the "lazy" among us is something like an Aeropress. Makes brewing ground coffee quick and easy - quite fun too!

    • +2

Nespresso capsules can be recycled and they do recycle them. Id be more worried about the plethora of plastic ones that are not recycled.

      • They do indeed but they've never released the numbers on their programs.

    • +1

We now do Aeropress or drip, but Nespresso is still way easier. One reason we stopped Nespresso is quality inconsistency. Some pods taste obviously wrong, which defeats the purpose of paying for Nespresso.

    • +1

Aeropress takes too long, by the time you grind some coffee, put the filter in, fill it, let it brew, press it and then drink it. I could have made and drunk my nespresso by then.

I actually downgraded from a full blown $700+ coffee machine + burr grinder to a nespresso… for convienience

      • +1

You can buy preground coffee beans to reduce the time.

It certainly does takes longer overall but I think the cost alone is worth it.

      • +3

I did the same, PS: people will rage at you for this, but now it takes like 1/10th the time to get a coffee, especially if you're making >2 coffees where you need to repeat the entire process more then once as group heads do 2 shots max.

It took me like 1 minute of my time to make a coffee this morning, with a consistent result even with 3/4 asleep.

I made the change like 5 years ago and wouldn't go back.

        • Not to mention the messing around when you buy new beans and your "perfect" grind setting is no longer perfect and you have to adjust it about 20 times by which time you're on new beans again and have to repeat the process due to the roasting not always being the same even if its the same beans you always bought.

  • Thanks, grabbed 50 capsules and shipping was free.

Other than convenience of purchasing at Woolies/OW/Coles/, I have no idea why people buy the generic-branded, Nespresso-compatible pods.
99% of the time they're no more than $1.00 cheaper per 10-pods than Nespresso in the face of extracting coffee from plastic cheap pods and sub-standard coffee.

    • +3

I agree, those compatible pods don't taste as good as Nespresso ones, IMO

      • +1

If the larger groups like Vittoria and L'OR failed, I have little hope for the no-brand ones that are in the market.
The fact that they're skimping on using aluminium for fresher quality really tells you that they're not for quality.

        • The L'OR and Vittoria ones are terrible! Bland tasting coffee and doesn't work well the machine

        • Exactly my thoughts too.

    • +2

The Coles pods are $3.70 for 10 whereas Nespresso are at least $6.80 for 10. That's a bit more than $1 cheaper per 10 pods

    • I would have agreed with you up until a couple of weeks ago but Grinders pods were on a 2 for 1 special at one of the supermarkets so I grabbed a couple of boxes of their double espresso intensity 14 . I love a strong coffee and I was very impressed with this one - excellent strength and yet a smooth aftertaste without any bitterness.
YMMV of course but worth a try if you like a strong coffee.

      • I always liked Grinders coffee from Cafes or when I had a machine/grinder myself, might have to give these pods a go next time

    • I've only ever bought the Coles ones (which aren't toooo bad, not good either) as an emergency as I ran out of Nespresso pods because I didn't order soon enough.

  • This aero press thing looks interesting. Are they paper filters? Wonder how it compares to my plunger coffee.

    • +1

Yes they are paper filters though you can buy washable (sponge?) ones.

Here's a good review - both have their perks.

      https://www.hilinecoffee.com/best-coffee-machine-reviews/fre…

    • Love my aeropress, mainly use it when travelling as it is so small and light. Agree with the review below that the result is more like espresso than the plunger - it even produces a layer of crema

    • Hmm biggest issue seems to be that we do coffee for 2 in the morning, meaning an aeropress takes longer. Plunger means I can just pour the water on the grinds, go and have a shower and then plunge it and pour for two…

    • +1

I use an Aeropress most days, as I'm the only coffee drinker in the house (if you're making multiple coffees at a time with it, you're gonna have a bad time). It produces some great coffee by my standards, and most coffee lovers seem to agree. And yes, it comes with (lots) of paper filters, but stainless steel, reusable filters are readily available online. There's also a surprisingly large Aeropress community online, with so many variations on how to use it. 6 months on, and I'm still perfecting my daily cup. With all that being said, I will likely one day upgrade to an actual espresso machine.

  • love the aldi brand capsules

  • +1

Perfect timing! Family have wiped out my supplies over the past 2 weeks

  • Hmm not sure how nespresso is even on ozbargain. surely the most expensive way to have a coffee without going to the shops to buy it.
Gimme a $2.90 bag of ground coffee and a plunger and that's got me covered for a month.

    • Because delivery is free and free is mostly always a bargain. Having a Nespresso vs buying coffees is still cheaper.

      $6.80 for a pack of 10 pods
$2.00 for 2 litres of milk

That's 88 cents per coffee vs $3 at a cafe or $30 a week if you bought 2 a day.

    • Lol a 2.90 bag of grinds lasts a month. Either you live in Brazil or you're drinking one cup a week :-)

Free delivery makes Nespresso a bargain especially for small orders. Unless you live close to one of their retail outlets or order 200 pods at a time, you're saving a decent % on the order.

Enjoy your bitter, gritty, plunged soup and leave the convenience of a decent cuppa to the rest of us ;-)

      Cheers.

  • They supposedly have a retail store in Chadstone, but I've never been able to find this elusive store. And because I don't buy large enough quantities of pods to qualify for free shipping, I just buy Grinders pods from Coles instead.

  • +1

Coles had a generic line of Nespresso compatible pods that were single origin coffees, They were on par if not better than Nespresso and was only $4. Too bad they discontinued those pods and are now replaced with a horrible tasting coffee blend that uses inferior beans.

    • I completely agree with you on this one, and was utterly disappointed when they discontinued Coles. I've tried L'or, Crema and Nespresso, nothing came close. Did you find any brand that you like to replace this?

      • +1

I now buy my pods online from Coffee Capsule Delights, They have quite a number of varieties and they sell in bulk as well, So you get a good value and a long supply, I always buy coffee grown from Sumatra, The taste never fails regardless of brand, Coles had the Sumatran pods but got rid of it when they discontinued their range but thank god I found an alternative elsewhere.

      • I like the Grinders ones.

Gloria Jean also makes some good pods, but I can't remember if they were Nespresso or Caffitaly. I have 4 pod machines, so I don't remember which is which sometimes.

    • I stocked up on the new Swiss made nespresso compatible pods. Pretty good. Everywhere they are about $6-$7 my local Woollies had them down to $2 for tenpack….the only compatible pods I have tried that are pretty good.

      • What are they called?

        • Café royal

  • Did anyone tried Pressogno
    https://www.espressorium.com.au/pressogno-coffee-capsules/pr…

Can tell me how good are they?

    • Haven't tried them but they certainly look ok.

Usually the compatible ones are those crappy clear plastic pods that don't quite fit as nicely as the genuine nespressos.

  • Cheers Firey1989 (OP) - just re-ordered again, was only thinking earlier today I should have ordered again whilst the delivery was free.

I just sign on to Nespresso with a new name to get the "Welcome pack" each time I run out of capsules :P Get free delivery and the gift each time as well.

    • -1

I'm sure they appreciate having "several" customers at the one address. There's being a true OzBargainer and there's being dishonest.

      • Nothing dishonest about it. I use the same serial number and address. Not like I'm the only house with multiple family members ordering capsules. The welcome pack is for new members to the Nespresso Club, not a per machine promo.

  • There does seem to be a 50 capsule minimum with free delivery. Through the app as least.

    • There's always a multiple of 50 limit e.g 50 100 150 due to packaging.

      • Was asking because your post said no minimum order quantity.

  • I can't see any free delivery through the app or through any browser … can someone post the link?

    • Perhaps it has ended. You do need to login and proceed to checkout to see if shipping has been added.

EDIT: Just tested it again. Now $6 applies. I've expired the deal.

      • Oops !! May be i just missed:)

        Thanks for the update
