Tempur is the gold standard for memory foam, and they sell mattress protectors which are very skinny and waterproof. It's almost like a skin, and has no "padding", such that it does not ruin the "memory effect" of the mattress. Not cheap, however, but Harvey Norman has sales happening (which normally doesn't mean squad) and I noticed a Tempur pillow on special too. So you may get lucky. From memory, price for a King size is around $150. Had it for a few years, and lasts well.
