Wow, only 5 votes on this deal (I just made it 6!).
Going by my recent posts on similar sets, specs and price wise. It seems to me Sony are more popular on OzB. Even though this set and the 65" variant are top spec units.
Great thing about this set I recently found out is that they are less reflective than most, of particular importance if you have a window infront of it (or lots of floor to ceiling ones as I do).

    • I don't understand either. Seems to be a great price for their top end model.

      • PVA Did you end up buying this set?
I am about to pull the trigger on the 65" model, still tossing it up as I really wanted to stick to my 2K budget.
        I don't need a big screen, I just think it's a really good deal.

I watch movies on a BenQPE8720 (about $10K when released), only 720P/1080i(http://www.projectorreviews.com/benq/benq-pe8720-darkchip3-d…)), I still love it, to me there's nothing like watching a movie via a good projector, it's so easy on your eyes.

        • No I haven't yet.
65inch is too big for us.
This is Panasonic top level for TV's, 800 series, the 65inch was a couple of levels down.
Still deciding if I actually need one and whether I need to spend for the 800 series or get a 55inch 700series as they go for around 1300.
Heck, I am even thinking the 50inch (posted by Trent) at jbhifi for $1000 is prob good enough and going from our 42inch will be still good for size (can't be too big in our lounge)

        • If you watch movies on a projector don't get a 65inch screen then, this 55inch or even the 55inch 700 series for 500 less is perfect.

I have only looked at jbhifi and thought the picture was great and our plasma is Panasonic and has lasted years so I trust this brand over others.

        • @PVA: Cheers. Unfortunately, I am into getting the best quality I can(in my price range, therefore long waiting periods).
So I am looking at the is or the 65" 800series I posted last week. I like the VA panels on theses models rather than the IPS, and the idea of the full HD 3D etc.
Many of my family and friends have cheaper 'entry level' or just above sets and the picture quality in particular skin tones, well, is…crap!.
I could not live with that, in the CRT TV days, I only bought LOEWE TVs as I loved the picture quality they produced, only matched IMO by the Pioneer Kuro Plasmas, none of the current 'entry/standard' LCDs come close, which is disappointing.
IMO only these level 4K sets and the OLEDs are worth it, picture wise.

        • @ozf1:
I thought the 700 and 800 series has the same screen quality/tech. I only see one real difference looking at specs and it is one processor.

Movie studios say they are releasing 4k movies this year (just announce the first 100) so a good time for a uhd screen.

Loewe were really good years ago, just like Blaupunkt were (not any more) I remember repairing Blaupunkt in the 80s, was high end but the guts inside was all Panasonic/National

        • @PVA: Yeah, Loewe had Phillips tubes and great designs (IMO), not just boxes!

        • @PVA: "I thought the 700 and 800 series has the same screen quality/tech. ".

As far as I know, the 800 has twin tuner and a few other things the 700 doesn't, I looked at this (attached link), which has a good overview of the main differences between the models. Note that AFAIK we in Australia get the EU model features.

        • @ozf1:
The 700 has twin tuners as well. Download the specs and check the Panasonic Australia site.
