Carry on & check in luggage largest dimensions allowed

Hi,
I am in the market for a new carry on and suitcase for checkin as the size of my current suitcases restrict me when packing (not the weight limit). I fly both domestically and internationally on all different airlines. What are the maximum dimensions generally that all airlines will accept for both carry on and check in? Or is there no maximum size for check in suitcase size (just a weight limit?). Thanks for your help everyone

Check all the airlines you use and get a carry on that meets all of their requirements.

56 x 36 x 23 is generally the universal limit for carry on, some go up to 61 x 43 x 25 while others are a touch smaller.

This is because most airlines have the same size overhead bins and space under seats.

Most carry on luggage sold will be around 56x36x23 so you're pretty safe if it's sold as carry-on.

    • That's right, I checked for Jetstar the other day, and the first set of dimensions given fit Jetstar. Tiger airways is slightly smaller than 56, but go check it.

Tiger is 54x38x23, 2cm off the length and 2cm onto the width.

    Hi,
There was an article about this on Lifehacker earlier in the year with the proposed IATA Guideline changes.

    Worth a read…

    There you go…

  • Thanks for the info on carry on. How about checked in baggage? Is there a limit to size or just weight??
