Krabi, Thailand - Best Way to Source Island Hopping Packages?

Hi fellow OzBargainers, as the title suggests - what is the best or preferred way for many to go about sourcing for those day trip island hopping packages?

This will be my first time travelling to Krabi with my partner, so I'd appreciate a bit of advice for those who have already been and done. I would assume that most would go straight to those tourist agencies in Krabi and shop there but I'd also guess that prices are at a premium. I'm curious to see if there are any other tips for shopping around and getting the best bang-for-your-buck deals, while at the same time trying to avoid being scammed.

Any suggestions relating to positive past experiences with certain tour packages would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Krabi was a awesome place to go.

After Phuket it was relaxing and you are left alone to do your thing

we did the 4 island tour but in a speed boat. We booked online from our hotel and it was $30 a person

however the long boats are cool

    just google 4 island tour.

If you are un trusting of booking online , there are heaps of tourist places selling tours and you don't pay a fortune.
Best thing is booking the day before , so you know the weather is good !

I would suggest packing your own lunch or some snacks as it is hit of miss with the food.

Also !!! we hired scooters, something we would never do in Phuket.
The cost was $4 for a full day and we explored a lot of the area on these

    I highly recommend
Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea) you climb 1300 steps to the top.. it half kills you but its worth it !

    • I did a bit of research yesterday night and have noted similar packages across different agencies but they're more or less priced around the same. Most likely going for the speedboats too to save a bit of time on travel.

I didn't consider booking the day before to take into the account of the weather conditions, so that was an eye opener even though it's pretty much common sense haha.

      Thanks for the great advice!

  • Just book from the tour agents on the streets. In Ao Nang, Krabi there where heaps of tour agents, they all pretty much sell the same tours. Visit a few to get an idea of the costs and pick the one your happiest with.
As the previous poster also said, book the day before you want to take the tour. This way you can have an idea of the weather. We did this and never had a problem getting a seat on any of the numerous trips we booked.
    Enjoy your trip

    • I think I'll go with that option of shopping on the streets. Might try my hand at doing some bargaining too if I can.

      Thanks for the advice :)

  • We booked the 7 Island Tour from a tour seller at Ao Nang at night. For some reason the night was cheaper. We asked which operator will give us the best discount. They said the 7 Island Tour and it was 40% less than I had seen anywhere else. It turned out to be really good.. In that dodgey but awesome Thailand way. Jumping off a limestone face near Poda, via an old broken rope ladder (I jumped in first, then people from everywhere jumped in, so go early). Then in broken English being advised to jump off the boat in the middle of nowhere at night (to be surrounded by bioluminescence). Then the hotel transfer (in the tray of a ute)…Enjoy!!
