Choice of Coffee Capsule Machines?

So, Target & Myer have got Dolce Gusto machines on special ; Good Guys has Nespresso; Dick Smith has Lavazza Modo Mio; Then theres all these.

I only want to spend about $50-60 for the machine but don't really want to spend $1 per capsule. My Nespresso died last week, happy with the flavour of that & choice of generic brands - do any of the others come with capsules that are only about $5 for 10 capsules?

  • We had an Aldi for a few years…put up with it leaking…got sick of waiting for the capsules to come on special (31c ea) and finally replaced it with a Caffitaly ($50 on special) from Woolworths…great choice of manufacturers capsules' and find the standard red Woolworths capsules (regularly on special at 31c), quite strong and similar to Cafe coffees…although this is purely to our taste. Some of the Gloria Jeans are too strong for us, and rarely on special…but a great variety available.

Quite happy with the Caffitaly… ours is the S21 basic model. Currently on special at Woolies for $59..Can't comment on other brands.

  • i brought the Espressotoria a few weeks ago when i saw it was half price. i've had Nespresso, Caffity and now Espressotoria.

my favorite for range was probally the Caffity, but i love the taste of Espressotoria. the Espressotoria capsules go on sale regularly and go down to around 50 cents (or so a capsule)

one thing i have heard from a ton of people is keep way from aldi's expressi system - the coffee is rubbish and often way too cold when expressed

  • +1

Have to disagree about the Aldi machine - the coffee temp. is fine. The mistake is people make is using a cold cup that hasn't been preheated first.

I have Aldi, Caffitaly and Nespresso and the temps are all comparable. Difference is really the taste of the coffee depending on what pods are available.

I do think the Caffitaly is better than the Aldi in terms of the coffee produced, but that's just my personal preference; I know others who are the opposite.

    • Hello dbun1, I am interested in your thoughts on the actual pods used in the Machines you mention. I have been informed by Aldi head honchos that they are no longer manufacturing decaf. For health reasons we have been enjoying aldi decaf for about 4 years, now sadly no longer can do. My question to you is, are there any brands of pods that can be used efficiently in the Aldi machine without causing any problems. Aldi of course are no help whatsoever, and when they have done ridiculing me for drinking 'non' coffee, tell me that using other brands, even if they seem to work, they will eventually bung up the Aldi machine and cause a big blow out. I would appreciate your help. Other sites seem to say I can use the Caffitaly, and possibly one or two that Gloria Jean makes.Thankyou, Rosie47

      • Hi Rosie,

Unfortunately I don't 'mix and match' different pods in different machines - I only use the correct pods in their respective machines.

I know people that use the Caffitaly pods in the Aldi machine, but they sometimes jam in the machine. Apparently the trick is to wait for the pod to cool before ejecting it; personally, I wouldn't bother. If you are buying Caffitaly pods regularly, then I would just get a Caffitaly machine and be done with it.

Do you buy any other pods from Aldi or only decaf?

  • I have just gone to American style filtered coffee. Bought a KitchenAid with thermal carafe negotiated for $169 at E&S Trading. Much cheaper and allows me to drink coffee all day long. Lavazza ground coffee ~ $20kg vs $100-150 kg for pods

Machine makes a beautiful coffee and just needs minimal milk.
