Long Term Parking on Sydney Airport or Taxi with Baby Seats

Hi Guys recently facing this issue very first time. Going to Travel overseas in mid of January till Mid of February and traveling with 2 kids one is under 1 and other one is under 4. My first flight is on very odd time so don't want to disturb any friend as I have to reach airport by 3:30 AM at least. And its not an option to avail a friend.

I am going to travel west of Sydney and travel distance almost 31 km.

Only options I am aware of are

1st Option Book a Taxi which is usually Lime Taxi or Maxi Taxi which is going to cost me Minimum $190 one way trip and $380 for total going to airport and coming back home.

2nd Options is to Book a long term parking near airport and catch their shuttle service to airport which so far my search gave me cheapest quote is $313 for 34 days.

Was wondering any Ozbargainer genius have any cheaper and better option which I am not aware of?

I would check the price of renting a car with a baby seat for one day for both occasions. Might be below $300.

    • Yes I thought of that but I am not sure any rental car office would be open by 4 am in the morning so I can drop the car at their office near airport. This is might be cheaper option only if their office would be open in early morning.

If you use any one of of the rental car companies at the airport (eg. Hertz, Avis etc) then you don't need them to be there. You park the car at a designated spot at the terminal car park, drop the keys in a security box at their kiosk/office at the terminal and they charge your credit card accordingly. For a one day rental, this would be considerably cheaper than the other options you have so far.

        • wow didn't know that how this works this seems really reasonable.

@birdmaster: Yep, you can hire the car from a hertz, Avis etc near you and tell them that you will drop the car off at the airport. There is a small surcharge for doing this, but it's going to be no where near the cost of long term parking or a taxi.

        • @resubaehtgnolhcs: +1 for this play…We do it all of the time. Works out to be way cheaper than any other option per capita! :)

I usually prefer last train though it might be inconvenient to travel with family and big luggage .. Just a thought

    • Train is not an option as any station is at least 3, 4 kilometres from my home as I always drive to station and park to catch train to work. At that time of morning with 2-3 suit cases and hand carries and baby stroller I don't see train any convenience.

    • I haven't caught a train in a long time so i am not sure, but do they run at that ungodly hour in the morning?

A real friend will help you get to the airport at any time of the day or night.

I've done it a few times and have had the favour returned.
Good friends would be happy to help

Remember - if you park at any parking places other than the one located at the Airport, they do not allow kids to be transported via Shuttle Bus - so you need to drop the kids off first, park the car and go there via Shuttle.

    • Thanks for the Heads up

  • Found some interesting info - you only need one child seat for the child under 12 months:

    From Government website - http://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/stayingsafe/vehiclesa…

*Children under the age of 12 months are not permitted to travel in a taxi unless they are secured in an approved child car seat, as follows:

Children aged less than 6 months: approved rearward facing restraint
Children aged 6-12 months: approved rearward or forward facing restraint
Children over the age of 12 months are permitted to wear a seatbelt while travelling in a taxi – but parents or taxi operators may wish to provide and use a child car seat.*

Another option would be to take the child seat with you in the taxi when you go and then store it in the storage for 24 hours ($15 - see rates here and get one of your friends to pick up the child seat later in the day.

  • 31k west of Sydney has somewhere in the Parramatta - Blacktown area. Try Rob @ http://www.heretothere.com.au/airport-transfers-sydney/
We have used them a number of times.

    • Here to There have baby seats available on request at no extra cost (just heard from the owner)

  • You can take the car seat for the under-1 on the flight and use it overseas, in addition to the standard baggage allowance

    • Not sure as when you book the flights and provide the info they don't even provide a seat for a kid they provide a capsule attached to the wall in front of your seats.

      • dp1 meant you can take it on the flight so you can use it in a car at your destination, not on the plane.

  • I have used TownCars for this purpose several times. They are great, even at 2am.

  • You might want to check one of the dedicated child/baby transport services like sydneybabytaxi.com.au - because they specialise in transporting children and babies they guarantee to have the right baby/child seats and to turn up on time (with plenty of time to put babies in their seats) and take care of you.

There are a few that offer this type of service.
