Though, he isn't wrong by any means.
being as sound is like taste, an extremely subjective thing, its hard to get reviews of headphones, unless solely going off the build quality.
Though tinny is tinny no matter how you judge it. The only thing I look for more than SQ is comfort. Which can be hard to test though…
Yes, but some people like tinny, some like lots of base.
@Apple96:
Tinny isn't the opposite of having lots of bass. Tinny can be hollow, it's also suggesting it's lacking mid range.@scuderiarmani: I never said it was.
Apple96 was listing preferences, as in:
Some like chocolate, some like apples.
This does not mean those that like chocolate automatically like apples or that liking chocolate excludes you from liking apples.
I strongly disagree with this statement, there is a big distinction between different sound signatures and sound quality.
Though, people's perception of sound quality often gets affected by sound signatures along with many many things that differs from people. The professional reviewers tend to try to be more professional about it, but I don't think all reviews are that professional.
It's really hard to seperate your taste from how the earphone sounds to you, unless you go completely analytical. Even then, your perception of sound changes depending on how you wear your earphone (i.e. depth of insertion and how tightly it is sealed determines how the earphone sounds), what kind of earphone you are used to and have been using etc. The audible range is different between people too, age, how damaged your ear is, etc etc. In short, I personally think it's hard to get a completely objective review. Measurements are the most objective thing that you can get (analysis of it can be still subjective though), even then, it is not liked by many people and there are still issues with how the measurement is taken, differences between perceptions etc etc.
tl;dr, I sorta agree with the comment above, reviews can be biased very easily.
@Oversimplified: Not to mention age, and hearing damage.
@Apple96: While it is hard, if not impossible, to be completely objective, doesn't mean that it's impossible to be somewhat objective. Many reviewers do try to keep some form of objectivity by using measurements, comparing the device with other devices, keeping some form of consistency at least in their review, mentioning what they like etc etc (though I personally think reviewers who at least put some effort in objectivity is far less than those who don't).
Eh, I think what you've said and what Synk is saying do not conflict each other unless you two are talking about complete extreme ends.
They're pretty good head phones, try it yourself, don't let one persons opinion stop you.
I've got a pair of these and I highly recommend them.
Same here, owned for about 1yr and still going strong, not as good as my cheap Sony ones but they were more expensive
Same. Had a pair for 2 years and are great quality for the price. No complaints at all.
They still sell these?. I bought one years ago. I didn't think it was that good.
COTD sells the Sennheiser HD 219 for $29 + delivery. That would be a better one wouldn't it?.

Note they are on-ear type
HD 201 also available at Sanity for $25. They might have it in store.

The price is good, and these are sturdy/comfy/light etc, I just felt like the sound was really ho-hum. Even with EQ I couldn't pull a decent sound out of these, they sit in my bottom drawer now. Sennnhesier are a great brand but they missed the mark somehow with these
Same, I had them for almost a year. When I upgraded to Logitech Ultimate 4000 only then I realized how mediocre these headphones are. The bass is… Non existent and too quiet even at max volume.
I later upgraded again to the HD419 but again, also fairly ho-hum performance.
If anyone bought the Panasonic Hc200 via Amazon.com last week for 30 aud, those are so much better still.
Keep the receipt close by as these things disintegrate over time.
do they outlast the receipt?
how do these compare to hd202
202's have bass, but hurt my ears.
Good price on a decent pair of budget cans. Had them and while not up there in terms of build quality or sound - they are nevertheless decent cans.
I suppose you could call it comparable to $80 cans. Since you're getting it for $25 - they're really good value.
Average price
so…. where can you get a better price?
the $22 shop
Which paper town is that one in again?
These headphones have been around for a long time, this price isn't a 'bargain' per se.
I'm taking the quality of the product into consideration when I say average price.
Now (profanity) off with your negs.wasnt me that negg'd, was genuinely asking as im tempted to buy for myself and maybe extra to keep aside for bday gifts in the future - i have no idea why i got neg'd with my paper towns reply to Gimli above - a $22 store doesn't actually exist right?
Cheer up, I gave you neg for this last post.
But if you know where you can find them cheaper, perhaps let people in the deal. If not, accept the negs.
@FabMan: accept the neg
I did :)
This is disappointing to hear. I have set of HD 212Pro Sennheisers that I've owned for about 15 years, and I love them. I thought each model was supposed to be better than the last!
The numbers are lower, everyone knows higher numbers mean better, so 212 is a higher number than 201, so therefore the HD 212 Pro (it even has a 'Pro' so you know its good) is better than the HD 201.
Has anyone used them on board an aircraft? How do they go blocking out engine / crying babies noise with sound on and without sound on?
Cheers, Chris~
maybe read the reviews I put in the post, they might answer your q :)
yep cheers. found a couple of amazon posts that mentioned the word flights…
I've been using these headphones back and forth to the US for a couple of years and they do block cabin chatter, screaming kids and doof doof from others' in-ear headphones quite adequately .. :-) .. !!
Thanks!!
Target has them for the same price as well.
http://www.target.com.au/p/sennheiser-overear-headphones-hd2…yeah I think ow are price matching them :)
should try using this headphone with an amp. it does make it sound better.
Ok, it will be difficult on the train commute to work but I'll give it a go.
There are posts elsewhere on the web saying these sound better after applying the 'Blu Tack mod' which just seems to involve taking them apart and insulating certain areas with a bit of Blu Tack reusable adhesive. It's probably worth trying if you have a pair and aren't happy with the sound.
The sound quality is decent enough and they are super comfy but they are so incredibly quiet. I've tried every eq I can find for my phone and can only increase the volume a little bit. Took them on a plane and gave up, switched to the airline headset as the engine noise was drowning these out.
Very open to suggestions if anyone has a fix…
Great price for superb sound per dollar.
