  • Same boat with the s5. A guy lefted me a voicemail from the local store and said no stock until the 2nd week of Jan 2016. Is it easy to cancel order and get my money back? I paid via PayPal.

    • God guys just wait for it, better than cancellation email :) Although it you paid full price you could get refund and buy at officeworks but if you got the voucher or amex I would wait

      • Unfortunately, the voucher never came through for me - so I ordered it to avoid missing out. $397 is still a very good deal - but with voucher + amex, it is definitely bargain of the year for mobile phones I think.

Didn't know Officeworks had it too.

Anyone have any idea if the refund is straight forward? Is it straight away?

        • You will prob have to wait till 2mrw man when they are all back at work so it should be quick and easy, the phone is in store HN for $397 for a while yet so OW Price should stay that way for a bit :)

        • -1

@TRENT86: I will still get it from OW rather than HN just to make sure I don't get asked to buy a Monster cable or extended warranty etc.

        • @wtfnodeal: I like to give the money to the starter of the deal, if HN Didn't drop price OW Would still be over $500 :)

        • @TRENT86: or buy at TGG at 120% price beat.

        • @wtfnodeal: Not sure if anyone forces you to buy a cable or a warranty at HN.

  • I got an email from the store after contacting them via email on website yesterday. The franchisee advised out of stock and more stock coming in second week of January and I can wait or get refund. At this stage I'll wait as have done $25 welcome credit + $50 Amex deal so for $322 I don't think anyone will match this.

    • Same here, my order status is still processing, called up the store and they said I would have to wait for next batch of stocks. For $322 it would be ok to wait for a week for two.

  • Oh well I haven't had any emails about the S5 but I have until the 12th so I can wait for it.

  • Can confirm that "SanDisk Ultra 16GB $9" are newer ones with a 80 MB/s rating.

    • But still quite expensive.

  • What size sim card does the Samsung galaxy s5 take? I just spoke with dick smith and they have one on hold for me as a price match with office works for $397

    • You r very lucky, tried a few dickies and JB, they refused to price match, manager bullcrap its below their cost …

      • +1

After ringing number of office works stores who should have had limited stock, they either said they were damaged or none left, so I contacted online support and they told me the following stores in Sydney had stock of black one.

Sorry about the inconvenience. The following stores have the Black available
        North Ryde - 2 Store Contact: (02) 9878 9400
        Chatswood - 3 (02) 9201 8600
        Campbelltown - 2 (02) 4621 6700
        Lewisham - 2 (02) 9367 9400

I ended up with Dick Smith at Blacktown price matching with office works and then went and purchased.

I was also told they are clearance model for all stores, which explains the price and wont be getting new stock

        • yeah everyone is starting to clear them out

        • Which makes me wonder how is Harvey Norman going to get new S5 stock?

        • They won't and whoever gone thru their online orders and not able to pickup yet, bet it is going to be a very painful refund process … I learn this lesson before, hence I now prefer to walk in physically and see the item before paying.

    Micro not nano

  • Thank you. Ozbargain has always had helpful people on here and great advice for others.

  • Too much pain to find S5 stock now, i ended up buying the LG G3 for $339 local stock with 2 yrs warranty plus it came with a bonus view window case made in korea for free! Doesn't really care if its only 2GB ram, only use it for videos and whatsapp … really need a BIG screen.

    • i did hear due to the super high res screen, 2gb will give you some lag, doesn't matter what you are doing.
The lag doesn't happen on the 3gb version.

But for that price, alittle lag doesn't matter too much haha.

      • i have been using my motorola XT885 for exactly 3 years and to be honest, it is still fine, so for me having a G3 is like switching from a Yaris to an A45, I probably won't even notice that lag at all, my moto is really really laggy …

    • Don't know if it helps anyone but Vodafone chap was trying to sell me a upgrade to SG5 for $5 per month (x 24m = $120?) on the new unlimited $40 Red Plan, on Christmas Eve on Melbourne. (My current plan has a few extra months before I qualify though). So, Vodafone does have stock. There is an unlocking fee of $80 if you do not wish to wait 24 months. I dont pay unlocking fees at the end of my contracts; once the contract ends they do this at no extra charge.

      • +1

How much do you pay per month in total for the contract period? Just $40 + $5 = $45? It's a sweet deal if it includes unlimited national calls, sms, 3GB+ data and some international minutes. If it's the case, then the phone is at dirt cheap price! I can't believe it though. Generally in SIM + Phone plans, the price of phone turns out to be even higher than the actual RRP eventually - leave alone it being less than RRP. Take the case of iPhone - you always pay more than RRP (or at least OzBargain deals) when you calculate the premium that you pay over 2 years on top of the plain vanilla sim only plan.

        • $45 in total. Not sure on the GBs or International calls though … you would have to check their website.

At the moment the prepaid $40 plan is better than the post paid plan, albeit that is a 28 days
Cycle not a full month. Prepaid $40 plan currently has more GBs (3 I think if recharged online) and 90 minutes international, but check online as these plans have been/are updated.

At the moment son's prepaid $40 plan is better than the Red $40 post paid plan. Son's old mobile was playing up recently so we bought a SG J1 Ace for $100 which included a prepaid $40 sim card. Couple of phone calls and we transferred the $40 Red sim recharge to his current plan. They don't advertise this … Not a bad little phone for $100 ($60).

Salesman said the usual phone payback is $10 per month, over 2 years, but it was reduced as a Christmas special. My current $40 plan (I only pay $35 as long term customer running 3 mobiles .. the SG3 was a gift/sweetener, when I renewed the last contract with them) runs out in May, unfortunately a few too many months away for me. Vodafone usually contacts me a few months before the end of contract with an offer, so I know already what sort of deal I want.

        • +1

          @JediJan:

Were you referring to SG5 OR SG3/ J1? I doubt if Voda will give SG5 for $120 even with a 2 yrs contract.

        • +1

@JediJan: Btw, the $40 SIM with one month's plan was for $2 at Dick Smith a few weeks back. Introductory (with first month allowance) prepaid SIMs are generally available for cheap - lately Optus, Telstra and Voda.

        • @virhlpool: Last time I renewed my plan I was given the SG3 as a gift, with Red $40 contract (I still pay only $35).

Re SG5: The salesman at Melbourne Vodafone store on Christmas Eve, Mall, Bourke Street, Melbourne, made the *$5 repayment (x 24 months) offer for the SG5 if I signed up; said it was a Christmas "special." We were discussing the values of the phone, waterproof, etc. Yes, I was keen (already have/had my sights on getting one soon)! When I explained I was still on contract he checked online and we found that my current $40 Red (er $35) plan expires next May, a few months too early to change to a new contract. I was not surprised as Vodafone sales people often have the ability to negotiate (especially over the phone), and $5 off per month is not that much really. They do let you change plans a few months early, but not that early. I already have a taker for the SG3 - I do take good care of my phones, but don't like the idea of selling them lest something does go wrong.

I think managing 3 different "plans" is enough for me, so I don't buy any of the $2 sims even if they do offer great deals. I do find it hard to keep up with which phone/plan has what … they are all different SG versions.

*ps. Regarding the SG5 $40 Red Plan; at the moment Vodafone online shows $10 per month over 24 months if you have a contract. They do have several phones to purchase under varied contracts. When the salesman said $5 per month was being offered I was very keen! Perhaps he thought I was a new customer. Vodafone usually sends emails, rings me at the end of contracts, to encourage me to sign up for another 24 month contract. Last time I told them I was still happy with my (SG2) phone, and didn't want any of the "free" phones they were offering, so I was asked which phone then did I want. I agreed on the SG3 and also $35 (not $40) for the Red $40 plan last time; I did not pressure the salesman.

Son (fortunately for me) was keen to take over my old phones. Last time though he wanted something smaller for his jeans pockets so we purchased a SG Mini 2 (unlocked). He was happy with it but lately it was turning off for no reason, and not worth spending money on for repairs. He likes my SG3 but said it is too big, so we went looking and found that SG J1 Ace Vodafone offer. Same phone $199 (unlocked) at JB Hifi and Kmart, so purchased for $100 (locked) at Vodafone, which included a sim for $40 value (unlimited calls/sms and 90 minutes international). We transferred the value to his current mobile number. An unlocking fee of $80 applies if required/wanted. They only have white stock available though.

Sorry for the long story (book) … I do have a tendency to over write.

        • +1

@JediJan: I appreciate your time and response.

        • @virhlpool: Vodafone Red $40 plan shows 1 GB data but 500 mb extra - There is a red screen that pops up, basically "chat to us now for a better deal." Says the extra 500mb ends 26 January, but it has been that way for a long time … maybe that will be extended.

Also under "choose a phone" the Galaxy IV still shows as $10 per month (when added to Red Plan) … but if you click on "$40 1 GB Red Plan", then click on "choose a phone", where SG5 shows as $50, then click on "view all phones", then select Samsung only it shows as $5 per 24 months contract (Total $45 per month). So this offer is there for everyone. (I wonder if I can do even better as a long term returnee)

I knew the data for Post Paid (Red $40) was lower than the prepaid $40 plan (3 GB I for prepaid think … it changes so hard for me to keep up).

Just got a call today saying the S5 is ready to pickup. Initially it was on back order and the wait was 2 weeks (like everyone else is saying). Hopefully that helps!

    • Got an email today that S5 is ready for pick up. Oxley store, Brisbane.

any chance I can still get the s5 in SA?

  • $9 - Assassin's Creed 3 - Wii U
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/assassin-s-creed-3-wii-u.html
Saw this today but didn't think it was it worth it's own post given how old the game is now.

    • I think EB Have it for $4 if you can get it in store

  • Hi Guys.. how is your experience with S5? I haven't yet started using it..

    • Hi. Can't tell you yet as haven't received it! Should be this week according to the store!

    • +1

Very good, loving it after getting rid of all the bloatware.
Got the $4 belkin case and a $3.89 tempered glass screen protector on ebay for it.

    • That dust cover / waterproof flap is the pitts. I replaced mine 3 times now (google it and see how many users are having this problem). Otherwise it's a great phone…the flap is a deal breaker for me.

I am changing to Note 5 for this very reason.

      • do u mean the usb port cover?
        samsung replaces it free?

      • Why do you have to change the phone if you don't like just the dust cover/ waterproof flap? You can also go for other types of covers.

        • The sentence follows..i replaced the dust cover / usb port cover 3 times

      • +2

It's the only thing so far about the S5 that makes me uncomfortable about the phone when recharge time comes. That flap is so flappy I feel like I am about to rip it off every time. I am thinking to buy one of those wireless recharge things (or whatever they call them) because of that.

  • Can't find … Sandisk Ultra 16GB SD CARD Or Micro $9
