Auspost Issues with Delivery

Hi Party People; I'm sure I had this coming ordering from Ebay a few weeks before Christmas, but with express shipping quoting a 5-9 day maximum delivery time I was hopeful… Edit, hope this is this right section to post this, as it was a electronic/appliance delivery is seemed right

I'm having an issue at present where I ordered the wife a Christmas present on 10 December with expressed delivery; now the tracking for the order has been updated to delivered, on a Saturday when i was home, however nothing has been delivered.. apparently someone signed for it, not the wife or I so it sounds like it has been delivered to the wrong address. Have been into the local Australia Post and called the online helpdesk; in addition to the EBay seller to follow up, but getting the run around saying people will look into it without an update, and really wanted it sorted before Christmas… any pearls of wisdom from the community about what to do?

As the recipient it would be your responsibility to follow this up with Australia Post, provided you're positive that the sender posted the article using EP, you have the online tracking number, the tracking number is marked 'delivered' and that you haven't received the item in question.

It would also help your cause if you brought this to AP's attention sooner rather than later, as a greater delay in reporting may act against you.

Additionally, you may have to open an Australia Post online account to lodge missed delivery enquiries, which shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

      That's outrageous.

I try to offer useful advice, and get negged.

Shame on you (you know who you are).

    • Got a plus from me, thanks for the advice! Lodged with auspost 20 minutes after reported delivery, it's time stamped on the website. Pity they did not have a weekend phone number, had to make an online account, was a long process!

    • You are incorrect here. The recipient is the ebay seller's customer and the seller is Australia Post's customer, so they (ebay seller) have to follow it up. I know because this happened to me.

      • From the link at the bottom of my comment (from Australia Post):

        Submitting an enquiry

        Items scanned as 'delivered'

The addressee should lodge a delivery issue enquiry if the item is showing in our track tool or via a track advice email as 'delivered' but has not been received.

Out of "recipient" and "seller", whoever you'd consider to be the addressee would need to contact Australia Post.

I'm talking from personal experience and they made me contact the seller and get them to look into it. They are never consistent though, so who knows.

You need to go to https://auspost.com.au/portal/#/register/delivery_issue

And fill out a form pronto.

However, in case they have lost your package or have misdelivered to some other chump who accepted the package (and got a free Xmas gift! yaay!) you can get some compensation. The compensation given depends on the type of service the parcel was lodged with: the amount varying between $50 (ordinary parcel with no cover), $100 (if registered parcel) or up to $5000 (if extra cover is taken).

    • I think I filled out that form when I lodged the issue will have a look to make sure.

    • I have had my parcels misdelivered twice by AP. One was dropped off at my neighbour without asking for signature.

  • do all that, but also file a "not received" from ebay and/or paypal and/or your CC

you paid for an item, it wasn't delivered

you are entitled to your money back

    • Good call, contacted the seller, did it formally via ebay.

  • Check your neighbours who have similar address numbers. Our house number is 55, but sometimes our parcels get delivered to 56.. or 66.. or 65… quite annoying actually!

    • Also a good idea, think we have a small Street with single digit numbers but maybe a good old fashioned door knock is the way to go.

  • You should be able to find out who signed for it. If the item was trackable this will be a big help. They can tell you who signed for it so if you recognise the name you can knock on their door otherwise with a big more pushing they'll have to pay out for it

The sender basically needs to contact Australia Post and ask for proof of signing YOU CANNOT DO THAT.

In the meantime print out what you ordered put it in a envelope and put your wife's name on it

    • Aye it was signed as my name but with initials 'kb' I'm a 'jh' so no idea who it might be.
Good idea on the printed thing in an envelope, if not delivered I'll go for a refund and rebuy locally.

At least your wife will know that Australia Post f***ed up and you didn't forget

        • Hah yeah that's the most important thing!

        • @Hippy: Still your fault though :)

        • @chill:
Aye it was foolish of me to try and use Ebay; was not sure where to get the item in Perth, so seemed like a good idea at the time!

  • When this has happened to me, the honest neighbour dropped the parcel in my mailbox (thanks friend! it was a portable HDD too, so not trivial value).
When I got a parcel for somebody else I sent the kids off to correctly deliver it.
Auspost handle so many millions of articles they must occasionally make errors. They have processes for dealing with them as others have linked to.
Hopefully, you will have an honest neighbour too, who is just busy and hasn't got around to sorting out the incorrectly delivered parcel yet!

    • Yeah fingers crossed, I'd do the right thing if I got a wrong delivery, not sure about the others in the area hah! Still had chat with next door neighbour but they had not seen in… Sigh what a Mod: Foul Language

      • Do you have a regular parcel person you could ask? I know when I have been in analogous situations, sometimes the mere question makes me remember the precise circumstances and issue (and I cringe and go "oh shit, I screwed up").
I'm really lucky that the local parcel people appear to be a family biz (well, my conversations are just how are you, no worries I'll carry it, thanks and see you next time so I can't confirm) of islanders or fijians who are fast, smart and reliable. At our old place, though, we had an older bloke who would stop for a chat and pass the time of day. I think either would probably be receptive to an inquiry about a possibly misdirected parcel as long as it didn't open with accusations and abuse - which judging from your sensible posts here isn't going to be a problem.

        • Good call, I'm trying to be polite at this point the old catch more flies with honey than vinegar thing. Have tried with the local delivery branch but don't really know the contractors who do deliveries specially. they mostly seem to knock and run these days and not stick around for a chat.

  • We had a similar kerfuffle. Missed delivery, received card, drove out to depot to pickup, parcel not there and apparently the driver still had it, called customer service and they advised that they could arrange redelivery, delivery promised for same day, never happened, drove back out to depot again to investigate to find out where the hell the parcel was, told us they could not help further and told us to lodge a complaint to get to the bottom of it. Finally after we received a reference number and escalated things got moving and it was finally delivered. Really poor communication between departments and shocking customer service(waiting 30mins+ each call just to get through to someone!). The parcel was worth $500 and coming from the US so we we're stressing about it a bit because they only hold parcels for "5 days" and then it goes "RTS" I believe which is a scary thought. Someone had to stay home for 2 days waiting for the damn delivery. Furthermore, the whole time the parcel was with the driver, never even taken to the depot!

    • God that sounds horrible, glad you got it sorted. I think in this case as someone signed for it, it seems like it may have been misdelievered?

It's impossible to overstate just how useful Parcel Lockers. It's a free AusPost service and avoids issues like this.

    • Parcel lockers most couriers dont leave them there so its very limited i have had a parcel locker since day one and still not even used it yet.
I just hate the way the leave your stuff at door no matter the value for someone to possibly help themselves.
Luckly i or wife always at home but days we have not and been out all day and come back to find sitting at door for world to see.
And lets everyone know nobody in which is not a good thing also.
They should regardless take parcel back to post office for us to collect at least you know its safe there.

      • The following couriers will deliver to Parcel Lockers:
        Australia Post
        Australian Air Express
        Star Track Express
        TNT
Toll (parcel bags only, not boxes)

Other companies are charged a fee to leave parcels at the Locker and will pass this fee onto you.

I love my locker it is for this reason that i check which courier company that is used by the merchants i deal with

        • It seems like a really stupid idea to me. Before I can buy online, I have to ring and ask what courier they use, check it against this list, to see if I can use a parcel locker.

All it would take instead is for post offices to be open at useful times instead of the one time when most people are at work and can't use them.

As for passing fee on - how is that going to happen?
My 2nd experience with parcel lockers: after not receiving my parcel for 2 weeks, I ring vendor who says I should have received weeks ago. I get details of the courier, who tell me they've tried delivering every day to the post office where my parcel locker is, but they wouldn't accept the delivery. I asked them to deliver to work instead, and received parcel next day.
(My first experience was a notification that my parcel was too big for a locker so I had to go and pick up from that post office during business hours, which of course was nowhere near where I work.)

So they work really will so long as you find out courier and dimensions and check against the parcel locker criteria.
As much as I hate to say, it's easier to get card left in letterbox and line up at post office on Saturday morning with the rest of town.

        • ebay seller just told me that my parcel is on it's way… with star track express.
I thought "oh know - another month of fighting for my parcel" then I remembered this post and ta da star track express is on the list. phew

The most useful information I've found on the internet in ages :)

        • @SlickMick:
When you register your parcel locker, you can choose the post office you want it to go to when it cant go in the parcel locker.
You can now also get a post office address instead of a parcel locker one, so it will go direct to PO and you get SMS when it arrived.

So instead of Customrer XXX-XXXX Parcel Locker
          It goes to
          Custoemr XXXX-XXX
          !!!!! post office
(this is the address you give to the retailer etc) thus avoiding the cant be delivered to a parcel locker problem.

        • @jimbobaus:
You had me for a minute there. But I checked, and I already have an alternate delivery address set up. But how could that work? Is Auspost offering to take the delivery at the parcel locker location and deliver it to my alternate location? It would be better for everyone if they just accepted the delivery into the parcel locker.

I checked the wording. They say "We'll send things here if we can't deliver to a Parcel Locker or Post Office." So other couriers are still out of the loop.

It also didn't work for my "parcel too big" issue - they made me go and pick it up from the parcel locker post office.

How does that PO address work?

        • @SlickMick:

When you register for a PL you get an address to use for parcels
          Its like
          CN 12345-12345
          Ringwood Parcel Lockers
          marrondah Highay Ringwood 3134
(or something) so this will indicate to courier that is a parcel locker and they will use the CN to text the right person to pick i up

Post office addresses are exactly the same
          It will be something like:

          CN 12345-12345
          Ringwood Post office
          Eastland SC
          Marrondah Highway, Ringwood 3134

This will be delivered to the post office and then you will get an SMS with a code, you report to that PO with the sms and your ID (or your Auspost Card) and they give you the parcel.
Its giving you options in case you are never home during their standard hours, it also allows you to have multiple locations registered (you need to register the PO to be able to use it through your MyPost account)

I wish they would introduce the fedex service
          they texted me and said
Hi, Your parcel (con note 123456789) is scheduled to be delivered to your address
          123 Main Street
          Suburb State Postode
tomorrow between 9am and 2pm, reply yes to confirm or no followed by alternate address to change delivery.

I replied NO and gave new address
          i then got text saying
Hi, Your parcel will now be delivered tomorrow between 9am and 2pm
          to
          123 NEW MAIN STREET
New Suburn, New State and new postcode.

They should ALL be doing this!!!
