They don't seem to have a dedicated spot at mine. Usually stacked near the milk or frozen foods.
The catch is that it comes with "The Fresh Food People" as the screensaver
that looks better than your TV pop up "Down Down Down…"
Hmm I've been looking at a new PC monitor. Wonder how this cheapie will cope?
It would be akai as a PC monitor, but probably just standard low-res HD (1366x768) resolution. Would advise against this, get something that's full-HD
Thx for the feedback…now you really must be punished for your bad pun as I never thought I would be such an enabler.
You'd be better off getting a 27" - MSY have some good ones, the BenQ one for 269 is a good monitor for all use.
It has VGA input form the box, however note that this is HD, not FHD! It could be as low as 576P or as 'high ' as 1440 x 1080. If you are among those thinking that 1366 x 768 is pretty sad for a 15" laptop, you are not going to like what you see using this as a monitor. If it is 1080i, you are really not going to like it.
The LG wide screen on special at MSY would blow this well out of the water for pretty much any use you wanted to put a computer monitor to apart from - well - showing TV programs.
Akai were a well respected and admired brand - until Philips bought them out in the 70's. Attempting to find more information on their Australia site under the audio-video banner garnered this :
"We could not find the Web Page you requested. This is either because:"
I'm sure it.
I'm no expert on TVs but don't they need 4:4:4 chroma subsampling to be used as a monitor? Otherwise the picture is a blurry mess. Pretty sure these cheap TVs don't have that, only higher end models do like a Samsung, Sony, LG.
Basically, yes.
LG is higher end… I doubt that after 1.5 years.
I didn't say that - I said it would blow this one out of the water :-p After grabbing a second Hand 16 X 10 Dell I've been spoilt.
@terrys: it's Yuri… lol.
Woolworths seems like they are trying to save their high margin products. Is this a sign BigW is going soon? I've never seen a TV being advertised at Woolworths either. It could be a one off test, but might become permanent.
They had them at every new store opening about 10 years ago. They flogged ,000's of them.
Could you upload pictures of the whole catalogue please?
Just go here. The next catalogue is online https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/SpecialsGroups/catalogue
Thanks!
It's most likely just a HD panel (720p), not full HD (1080p). But do you really need full HD on a 32" TV?.
Only a gamer would.
Btw, can this by used for gaming???
It has 3 HDMI ports so you as long as the gaming console (which the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One all use HDMI) or computer has a HDMI port then yes you can use it for gaming. You will just get 720p (1366x768) resolution.
It's probably be alright for casual, console gaming but I wouldn't count on it for anything else - likely has high input lag.
Yeah would be fine for console gaming since it's designed for use on Televisons.
@hollykryten:
Can I use this TV for watching tele or only gaming?
thanks
You don't, unless you're planning to use it as a monitor or watch the TV from a very close distance.
I recently picked up an excellent 32" LG with smart functionality for $270 from a Dick Smith half price deal. The same resolution but better brand and value (and no doubt picture quality too).
Akai have been rebranding some Sony products in the U.S.. At this price tho, I doubt it is one of them.
Looks like a TCL I have at home because it looks like the same thing… It's a 32 inch as well. The stands are very similar.
Doesn't match any TCL tv that i could see on the TCL Australia web site. The stands are different.
I just noticed it is slightly different… No bump in the middle.
It's an old TV from a few years ago.
I can't search for the TV on the AKAI Australia web site as clicking on AUDIO VISUAL results in a page not found. Not very professional.
@ponyhearts:
That wouldn't be too foul - I have a TCL I got cheap because it looks someone's toddler decided to run the toy car along the bottom of it .
Edit: i was looking at the wrong picture in the catalogue. The big picture makes the stand look different and smaller (because the Woolworths photo editing cut off most of the stand).
So i agree the bump on the TCL slim TV's (such as this one http://www.tclelectronics.com.au/product.asp?pid=153&cid=31) look the same as the bump on the right hand side of this Akai TV. The stand may be the same. This Akai 32" TV might well have been made by TCL. But even the TCL 32" Slim LED TV's only have a 3000:1 contrast ratio which is poor in quality.
Depends how far you sit. If you sit 2m + (which is really not ideal for such a small TV) then 720p and 1080p won't matter. Sitting at a proper distance of 1.2m of so the difference between 720p and 1080p is night and day.
Agreed, but only for watching 1080p content - not broadcast TV.
In 2015, you'd expect factories to simply build 1080p displays. Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for here.
Great TV to throw in the spare room
I'd highly advise against doing that.
It must be a different way of exercise !
I love Aldi…..I mean, Woolworths..
It's getting a bit like that :)
I have a suspicion that it may be this Akai 32" TV being sold on eBay for $349.95. In that case it would be model AK3215HDC
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-AKAI-32-HD-LED-TV-WITH-…
No mention of inbuilt DVD with the Woolies one.
Damn was close but no cigar.
Close but no inbuilt DVD :-D
Woolies should start taking photos for men. They've made that 32" TV look twice as big.
what do you mean. loo ks like any tv to me.
These are all the Akai LED televisons listed on the Akai Australia web site and it doesn't match any of them (all have a different stand). I don't know where these TV's that Woolworths are selling are coming from.
http://www.akai.com.au/audio-visual/televisions
I do know that the 80cm TV's that are listed have an awful 1200:1 contrast ratio. Honestly that's a terrible contrast ratio. The Akai TV from Woolworths would be just about the same a low quality second rate panel. The brightness of the pictures from this TV would not be good at all. So looks like you get what you pay for.
What about as a simple bedroom TV ? Still avoid?
Personally i'd avoid any TV that has an awful contrast ratio. Would make video playback on any TV look dull.
You can read up on this web page about why contrast ratio on a TV is very important. The higher the contrast ratio the better quality the panel. The better contrast ratio means the blacker the blacks will be and better picture quality.
http://www.cnet.com/au/news/contrast-ratio-or-how-every-tv-m…
Take for example this picture. Left is a high contrast ratio (black is better and colours are brighter) and the right is a low contrast ratio (black is more a grey colour and colours aren't as bright and clear).
http://i.i.cbsi.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2011/05/25/Good_and_Bad_Co…
Personally i wouldn't touch this Akai 32" TV with a 10 foot pole knowing how poor the contrast ratio will be going by the 1200:1 contrast ratio on the Akai 80cm TV's that are already listed on the Akai Australia web site. That sort of contrast ratio would be the worst quality panel you can get.
Fair points made, I'll look for a better deal. No shortage of TV deals at the moment.
Ten foot poles and no cigar - you're bringing out your blessed ocker game tonite hollykryten
Akai = Bogan TV
Okai :3
Mate your comment is out of date
Maybe they want this to happen?

im after good monitor, just for casual browsing or work with few excels etc - definitely NOT gaming or heavy professional works.
what size is good? i think 25" is too big?
fyi, i will buy 2 and connect them together.
edit maybe should have posted on more relevant thread.
i will buy 2 and connect them together
That wouldn't work. You should connect both monitors to the computer.
Yeah that's what I meant… Sorry. Connect both to Microsoft surface
Yeah, I knew what you meant, just trying to be funny :)
I have never seen a TV in my local woolies.. interesting.
