Coles Online (Prepaid) MasterCard - Save $5

150
COM5

flybuys just sent out a promotional email for the Coles Online Mastercard.

This is a load-once virtual prepaid card, normally with an online card purchase fee of $5.

The coupon code will deduct $5 for every card purchased between now and 28th December 2015, effectively waiving the purchase fee.

Great for a last minute gift, if you forgot to buy one.

  • This is the biggest rip - $5 off but a $5 processing fee lol no thanks

    • Does this mean the card is free to purchase?

So essentially you're say paying $5 for a $5 prepaid card or $10 for $10 load value etc. Where's the bargain?.

      • OP mentioned this for giving gift.. You cannot buy any Visa or MC prepaid card for free..

      • This is actually a great product. However at the end of the email it says this offer is targeted

You can use this card at coles express ATM to get the free coffee etc

You can buy products from stores online that you don't want to disclose your cc details to

You can use it for cheap $1 newspaper and mag subscriptions if you don't want then to renew it

    • Oh woe is me! They have overheads to cover. What blasphemy!

  • Similar to the physical one discussed here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/219483

  • "Your balance is not a bank deposit
We hold funds that are stored on your Card and
we hold the value stored on any Top-Up Vouchers
in various accounts that we own and control.
We earn interest on funds held in these accounts
and may share that interest with Coles.
    Important
You will not earn any interest or generate
revenue on any Available Balance that is stored
on your Card or Top-Up Voucher"

[The APRA box wouldn't copy and paste, however money on the card is not covered by the Financial Claims Scheme]

    " We reserve
the right to decline your Card order or to change the
name on your Card if we consider that the name you
    provide is inappropriate.
If this happens, we may automatically and without
notice to you charge you a Replacement Card Fee.
    See “Information on Fees” below"

    Sounds magic.

Sounds like a bank to me. Earning themselves interest off your own funds that you've handed over.

  • Lol giving this as a gift.. for example a $20 card, would be the same as giving that person a $20 note…

I don't think this is much of a deal. Only thing it could be considered potentially "good" for is to earn points on a prepaid card, but it's very minimal.

    • there is a targeted 2000 flybuys to sweeten the deal

    • I got that, but I think it's expired
That would be a deal! Essentially getting $10 free if you could do both together.

edit: Oh cool - still valid until end of this month. There's a deal for me! thanks

  • The website doesn't even work >.>

EDIT: It is saying the offer is expired

Useful for ordering online with less than reputable websites

    And free trials for things.

    • That's why I got mine. I'll load it when I need money on it to buy something online. I won't be using it as regularly as they suggested, because it's not as convenient as just using your own debit card at the checkout. But, with no fees to load or anything, I thought it was a decent deal.

    • And free trials for things.

get 12 of these and get free Club Catch for a year

  • Better off with qantas cash. You get frequent flyer points too and frequent flyer program is usually free.

    • I hope you're not giving your qantas cash card away as an xmas present.

  • "Promo code expired. The promotion has not been applied."

Surely this reloadable prepaid Coles MasterCard for $10 (with 2000 flybuys points) - so essentially comes out free - is a better option?

    https://financialservices.coles.com.au/prepaid-cards/coles-r…

    • I don't think this is how it works out - the 2000 flybuys points are to be redeemed from your flybuys account, not given to you as a bonus for this card. So effectively you are spending your own $10 (which you could have used for grocery) to pay for the $10 card cost. Unless I am reading this totally wrong…

      • It is a bonus for buying the card.

        • Hmm… I just rang their card service centre, and they said there is no bonus for buying the card, and the 2000 points will come off your existing flybuy balance.

        • @tekken: Are we talking about the same card? This one. It has a 'Bonus 2000 Points' tag just like any other FlyBuys bonus tag. I understand the card costs $10 to buy, but that's what 2000 is worth.

I just read the fine print and it's a targeted offer so maybe you aren't eligible.

†2,000 BONUS POINTS offer only available to customers who receive this email and purchase a Coles Reloadable MasterCard between Mon 21 November and Thurs 31 December 2015. 2,000 BONUS POINTS will be credited to qualifying flybuys members account within 4 weeks of offer end date. You have been specifically selected for this offer and it is not transferable. You must enter your flybuys number from the top of the email when you buy your Coles Reloadable MasterCard. Only one 2,000 BONUS POINTS offer applies per flybuys member number.
