When mine failed JB told me to ring Samsung and get a repair order. Then drop the telly at the store and they take care of. rest.

Have you got insurance through credit card? If not, call Mr Sammy (Samsung) explain the situation and advise that warranty cover is only for 12 months, but when you buy TV worth $1500, expected life for TV is not 12 months. So it should cover within statutory warranty.

    refer the link

    Quote from above link:

A consumer can also insist a supplier meets a consumer guarantee, even if the goods are covered by additional warranties. For example:

A consumer buys a plasma television for $6000. It stops working two years later. The supplier tells the consumer they have no rights to repairs or another remedy as the television was only covered under the manufacturer’s warranty for 12 months.

Even if the consumer had purchased an extended warranty, they may still have the right to a remedy under ACL because a reasonable person would expect a $6000 television to last longer than two years. The consumer has a statutory right to a remedy on the basis that the television is not of acceptable quality and the supplier must provide a remedy free of charge."

thanks, this is the reply i was waiting for, i paid cash.i'll give it sammy a crack

  • Sorry, further to add:
Call Samsung direct and explain the situation.

PS: I have change my TV Screen @ 4 month past warranty expiry due to black spots.

  • My Samsung TV was 20~ months old with none of that extended warranty nonsense purchased. It started to randomly fail when trying to turn on, becoming more frequent as months went on, so I called it in for a repair before it hit the 2 year mark.

The rep's first comment after taking my details was "Did you purchase the extended warranty?" I responded "No, but I don't need to, ACL covers me for a reasonable length of time". She proceeded with giving me a repair order number and the contact details of their repair center for my area, didn't even mention the warranty or anything along those lines after I used the magic abbreviation. The repair center did give me a runaround however, they wanted photographs of the serial, video of the fault, unredacted proof of purchase etc, then they came out and didn't bring the right parts even though according to the repair guy my description would have been enough if the receptionist had passed it on to him…

Just go for it, you'll be fine getting it done.

    • this is whats happening with me, it happened about 6-7months after purchase but was hardly noticeable, it would freeze once every month or so, i didn't bother me at the time. as of yesterday it froze at least 10 times, had to keep pairing remote.

called up sammy, waiting for a call back due to the overload of calls at this particular time.

  • cool stuff!
