Moving from Brisbane to Tassie, Any Tips?

Hi all,

I am planning to move to Tassie in around a month or so's time, just not sure how or where to start. I am currently contemplating between renting a box trailer and using a removalist. What usually is the cost for moving a 2 bedroom unit? Do any of you have suggestions for good removalists out there?

Thanks in advance.

Is your furniture worth the cost?

Might be better to take the opportunity to sell your furniture and move lightly.

the road to Tasmania is washed out this time of the year ☺

sell everything, drive to sydney and crew on a yacht to hobart?

    • Can always take the high road and go the other way.

Do you mean an enclosed box trailer? Furniture takes up quite a bit of room even for a 2 bedroom apartment. We moved from Tassie to Byron Bay about 25 years ago with an enclosed box trailer, but it took two trips and we got rid of most of our stuff before moving.

Cars are subsidised on the ferry as far as I know, so generally not much more than your personal fare, but I think a trailer can add a fair bit to the cost.

Is your furniture of decent value? If not then consider selling up and buying secondhand again in Tassie.

Investigate backload removalist from Brisbane to Tassie, might save some.

Or perhaps buy a trailer and sell it again in Tassie (or keep it). A one way trailer rental could get pricey?

  • A one way rental for a trailer could be expensive…

  • removelists charge by size not weight, so put the lightest, space consuming cr*p in ur car if ur driving down, and let them do the rest…

  • Did some research, I guess I would be looking at boxing things up and just send them via pack and send or other transport services. It should work out cheaper than either renting a trailer ($600 one way) or using a removalist ($2500).
