Printer

Hi

I'm looking to buy a printer to print documents mainly. I don't want to spend more than $100 and I'm looking for one that has cheap replacement cartridges or refills.

I noticed the wireless one that's on special at ow but I'm not sure how much the replacement cartridges cost.

Thanks in advance.

  • You can also get refills, or buy your own refill kit. This works for laser toners and inkjet types.

    • Doesn't the cost of the refill differ depending on the model?

      • Refills can be done at those specialty places, or even buy your own kit. I think those DIY kits can be universal as they just have a sort of syringe and tube, and you can even buy them at Coles. Don't forget there's also plenty of generic replacement cartridges and toners going around.

Personally I got a 2nd hand monochrome Laser off eBay for $30 delivered - it does 6000 pages to a toner, and thanks to an eBay saved search I've also picked up some new toners for $20-30 each. eBay also helped me get a cheap second hand print server so it's networked and wirelessly accessible to any of the laptops, desktops or mobile phones in the house.

Edit: if you don't mind near-new, refurbished or used, then also have a look at Graysonline. For example they have this online auction which includes a selection of used printers for pickup in Melbourne (probably from a company closing down) and so far the bids are less than $100:

…they will always have different ones available.

  • I think I might grab that $37 HP from OfficeWorks i just checked the price of replacement ink and it's $25 for the black and $30 for the colour. Unless anyone has a reason why i shouldn't or knows of a better value printer?

    Thanks for your input inherentchoice

  • +1

I'm currently using a Brother HL2140 which I purchased for $63 with a $20 cashback. Highly recommended for monochrome printing. Fast, simple, easy to use, can be refilled on the cheap as well considering the pages I get for it's price range.

  • A good idea for you would be to purchase a cheap HP/Canon or the like and get a Rihac installed onto it - have a look at:
    http://www.rihac.com.au

Sure, they may cost you a fair amount to purchase, but in the end you will save a lot of money!

I purchased a Canon MP630 and intend on going down that route shortly :)
