FREE Marinade in a Bag 'n' Bake Oven Bag When Purchasing Seafood/Fish @ Woolworths

150

I honestly didn't know this deal existed until the nice lady at the seafood section offered it to me after i bought some Trout.

Among the ones listed below, they had lemon and herbs which i chose. I think its 7 in total you can choose from depending on the store.

They also add a generous amount of Marinade and divide the portions into multiple baking bags which i found was very helpful

yep, they have had it for a long long time, maybe a year.
an oven bag with your choice of marinade sauces or even flavoured butters.

wow and all this time ive been buying and making my marinade. I feel ripped off.

Lunch was too easy. Let fish sit in marinade for 2 hrs. Put it in the oven and it was ready to eat in 20 minutes.

Quickest lunch ive made in a long time

      • to be honest I have never tried it. I did get the butters one time but never bothered with the marinade.
Looks like I need to try it, was the lemon one good?

        • +2

          delicious

might try the tomato and basil with salmon next time.

they had 1/2 price Salmon $16/kg at Bankstown WW. by the time i got there it was sold out

        • @easternculture:
as to salmon. Pac Fair Gold Coast Coles had some packs, normally $13 now $3 (two pieces in the packs). I assumed use by was today and I didnt need any so didnt look any closer.

        • @PVA:

          Cheap. You can freeze them.

          Great for cheap work lunch

@easternculture: not sure where you work but where i work if i started cooking fish for lunch in the office microwave i'd be tarred and feathered

        • +1

@Matt P: Pre cook it at home, freeze and then take it out and microwave at work for a bit

        • @Matt P:Yep. Same for people with stinky tinned tuna.

      • quick warning to everyone that they fill the bag with marinade and your meat THEN weigh the goods
so youre paying for marinade at the $/kg of the meat

        • I've worked in a woolies seafood dpt, and we were told to weight the fish first and then put the sauce. If that didn't happened to you, you should probably talk to the seafood manager or store manager to fix it. It could have been just a mistake by someone new.

          @interz21:
          oh thats good to know!

my expierence was when they first started offering this so maybe the person was new

i bought salmon so the $/kg wasnt cheap!

Coles has the same thing too..just have top ask the guys at deli.

Have you tried it? In particular the lemon and herb is awful. Terriaki is OK. better off making your own marinade or buying a nicer brand. Fish is to expensive to ruin with these marinades.

loved it . Everyone has different taste . However, I respect your personal opinion

    • Agreed, Lemon and Herb tastes like dishwashing liquid - absolutely wrecks the fish.
These things have been around 2 years+ in selected Woolies, at least here in Perth. Coles have the same thing too but it's a bit more hidden.

  • thawed for your convenience?

Only butter sauces come frozen, the rest are just long life sauces. You should see more fish this week for Christmas, depending on your local store though…

      • Geez I was actually joking! I'm sure they are working over time defrosting it all (MELB,SE) but there's plenty of better places to pick up fresh fish around here.

all good nickyboyy, just wanted to clear it up regardless :)

Do they put the marinade/ butter in before or after they weigh the fish?

    • from my couple of past purchases its before, so you're paying for the marinade

      • +2

I ask for the butter after they've bagged my fish :)

    • +2

They did it after the fish was weighed

      • +1

perhaps they have changed how they do it (i tried it when it first was available ~ 1 year ago), or I just got a dodgy deli/fish counter worker :)

        • I had a discussion with a woollies employee about that after they added the marinade then weighed the fish. They insisted that it was done that way. Store manager sorted it out.

          Have not bothered since.

    • After.

Shouldn't this be in the forums? You've never had to pay for this.

Bought this I would think 2 years ago……never bought again.
Your paying fish/marinade price at something like $30odd per kilo for the fish and marinade making the marinade add to the Cost of the fish…….so it's not free.

They put fish in bag, added marinade, then weighed it and printed the ticket…….
I thought that was dodgy tactics.

    • Your paying fish/marinade price at something like $30odd per kilo

LOL @ $30 per kilo. A true ozbargainers never pays full price for fish. I only buy fish from woolies when its at least 40% off and combine it with discounts ($5 off $30 , etc)

They put fish in bag, added marinade, then weighed it and printed the ticket…

They weighed mine before the marinade was added.

      • Yeah,i think its supposed to be weighed before……I wasn't overly joyed to see them weigh after filling bag.

I agree with the 40%-50% discounts……must have been a moment of weakness and clouded judgement ha ha ha

        • Just weight one of the 2 bags left i bought.

Charged for 480 grams. Weighs 600 grams with marinade

  • Thanks for this @easternculture! We tried some salmon with Parmesan and Herb marinade from Coles the other day and it was fantastic.

Anybody know if they will also do this with chicken? If I bought a kilo of chicken breast maybe they'd add marinade sauce and seal it in a bag. I only just thought of it, I'll ask them next time I'm shopping. It's the same counter in most stores so worth a try.

    • if you ask nicely, im sure they will
