  • I did a search on this phone and apparently a week or so back it was $99 at Coles too. I bought a Samsung Core Prime instead and didn't realise this was cheaper. On the upside it does have NFC which this doesn't. It's a bit tacky and I've only used it to scan opal cards.

I think the Sony is a good deal if you can get it, based on the specs, if not the Core Prime might be a good alternative, albeit slightly more expensive.

    On a side note:
Anyone else notice that Woolworths only seems to stock the fixed focus phones whilst Coles ones usually have autofocus???

    • The E4G also has NFC. Can also be found for $99 at Aus Post & Dicksmith.

i got the telstra buzz, $63, does 4GX, unlocks for $5 on eBay, and it comes with android 5 lollipop …… telstra seem to be doing the buzz very cheap at the moment.

too many of the sub $100 phones only have android 4.4 and will never see android 5.

  • Can anyone tell me if the specs for this phone will work unlocked with Optus (Amaysim)?

I'm slightly tech challenged, but I heard the MHz are different for each carrier?

This phone will work fine on Optus network. The buzz on the other hand lacks 900 3G that this does. So where Optus uses 900 3G you'll have trouble with making or receiving calls. This is a much better phone than the buzz, but then you're spending a considerable amount more. The key thing this has over a lot of other cheaper phones is band support. It even supports band 5, which is Vodafone 4g 850 network. A few things this phone has over cheaper phone also is dual band wifi, qHD ips screen is quite good and extremely bright, the camera is ok in good light and the mtk SoC is fast so the performance of the phone is excellent. Now is worth $36 more?

Another alternative is the Alcatel pixi 3 4.5 (Optus locked version) which has better band support than the buzz (850/900 3G support) and can be bought at Kmart for $49 at moment.

  • I bought one at Kmart Hurstville yesterday. The sticker is 149 but scans 99 dollars. There were two left in black. Dick Smith is selling it for 129 dollars if you can find it.

  • I bought one (Sony E4G)on Saturday and am quite annoyed as everyone says this phone has NFC which was the buying point of the phone on a budget and it definitely doesn't have NFC.Have it on my galaxy and it works like a dream but Sony the usual Sony rubbish I've encountered over the past 20 years is getting old. Learnt my lesson to never buy the crap again. Cannot even take the phone back (havn't even activated it as it's just another POS.) I'm coming to the conclusion it's not actually the E4G but a rebadged E4 which is misleading. Anyone that successfully uses this phone to use the tap feature of say netbank I'm willing to listen how the hell you set it up when it's not even in the settings..

    • NFC is only on the E2003 model. We have the E2053. Should've checked the specs

      • There is no way to know what you have until you open it up and turn the phone on and look at About Phone. It's a dodgey move by Telstra and Sony imho.
