Samsung Tab Screen Replacement - Need a Low Fee Quote - Recommend a Repairer

Have a 4 month old Galaxy Tab which has a typical one line crack on the screen. Purchased with a Coles mastercard, I can get this repaired for free, however I need to obtain a quote first to send to Coles insurance.

There is only one Samsung authorised repairer in Perth, Alltech, who initially quoted me $45 over the phone just to obtain a quote. I have to grin and bear the cost to obtain a quote as it is not covered by insurance.

Fair enough, I went to the repairer (Alltech) only to find they altered the cost to obtain a written quote to $85. $85 is a joke just for a written quote. They will provide the total cost of repair verbally (which is $380) but when you ask for it to be written down (ie. quote), they require payment.

I did speak to an authorised repairer in NSW a while ago who was happy for me to send it to him with no quote fee. I just had to pay for postage there. But I lost that number. So I'm sure there are better options than Alltech.

Anyway, does anyone know of a repairer (authorised or not), preferably in WA but happy to send to one nationally, who you can recommend to replace a screen and possibly digitiser?

Cheers

  • If it's insured who cares how much it is. Just choose the easiest one for you and get Coles to pay you back with the insurance. To be honest $45 or $85 sounds rather cheap for a tablet screen repair. I would have expected something like $250. That's how much an iPhone screen replacement normally is from one of those kiosks

    • Apologies, $45/$85 was just to obtain a written quote (post edited). The cost of repair is just under $400.

I need a written quote first to send to Coles insurance.

      • Ah that makes much more sense… I would just tell them your circumstances (insurance is paying, just need paperwork) and ask if they can do it for free. They're guaranteed the repair job as soon as insurance gets it anyway so just try asking.

        • Nice thought but no chance of that at Alltech. They admitted they may have made a mistake by giving me a figure of $45 on the phone but would not drop the $85 price. It wasn't until I said it was an insurance issue they told me of the cost for a quote.

Are you sure you're getting a quote for the right thing because while you seem to think $85 is very expensive that seems much too cheap to me.

But anyhow provided you're getting a quote for the right repair job why worry about what your insurance has to pay - I would just take it to the most convenient (not cheap) repairer that is a large, established business to minimise any future hassles that some small businesses can bring.

    • My post has been updated to make it clearer, apologies.
