Good Major to Select after Diploma in Business Management?

Hello Guys,

I have a general question what are the options for majors after completing Diploma in Business Management? Moreover, out of them, what be the wise choice to do as a Major, keeping in mind about the future opportunities and so on.

Cheers,
Santa (jingle bell).

  • what be the wise choice to do as a Major

What are you wanting to do with your Diploma? Are you looking at starting your own business? Looking to go into consulting? Project management? Accounting/finance field?

The Major you choose should be something that assists your pathway - it's your chance to get more specific about where you want to go. Where do you want your Dip to take you?

    • What Would be the better option? so far he has no idea what he wants to take major in.
(he here refers to my cousin)

It's such an open ended question - makes it hard to answer.

There is very solid career growth in the Project Management and Business Analysis sectors and has been for the past decade. Both of these areas require the kind of working knowledge of business that a Dip of Bus Mgt would give you. These roles cover a wide range of sectors and can provide someone with the ability to specialise, sector-hop, consult and travel. They're probably the two most "go-to" areas for people educated in Business to go into if they're after a 9-5 style career.

He will have some hurdles getting his foot in the door as he'll be up against graduates with Bachelor degrees but once he has some experience behind him he can push ahead quite quickly with his career in these areas.

        • So you mean the Bachelor in Project Management and Business Analysis would be at good odds?
          Does Business Analysis have types?

        • @TurkishDelight: Sorry I think I misunderstood - is he looking to go on to complete a bachelors degree?

If that's the case then Bachelor of Business majoring in either Project Management, Business Analysis or Information Systems would all be good bets as that would open him up to the following career choices:

          • Business Analysis
          • Systems / Technical Analysis
          • Project Management
          • Management / Business Consulting

Given the current way that industries are going it'd also be useful for him to combine some IT/System/Information specific courses/electives.

All of these are great career choices that can lead him down whatever career path he wants.

        • @the-mal: Thoughts on this course?-http://www.rmit.edu.au/study-with-us/levels-of-study/undergraduate-study/bachelor-degrees/bp138/#pageId=overview

What jobs are out there with this course? Worth doing it?

        • @TurkishDelight: Great uni, good course, lots of options coming out with a technical business degree like that.

All the jobs I listed above (and many more) would be possible from that course.

I'd major in finding a job preferably in a large organisation so you can move around, working out the type of work you enjoy doing and then major in that. So many people think that a piece of paper = jobs. Piece of paper opens a door, you have a piece of open go through the door and have a look around and if you need another piece of paper for the next door, do it then.
