3G or 4G for Max Battery Life?

Hi

Just wondering why new phones have a 4G selection button. I get perfect 3G & 4G in my area. Will 4G use up more battery? Assuming the website load times are both very quick & hardly noticeable. Will 4G for large downloads and 3G for browsing give max battery life?

4G connectivity will always consume more battery life than 3G. Having said that, the difference might not be considerable (depending on your phone), so it could be a false economy where you'd be using more battery power with the display on and changing the settings, as opposed to leaving the settings unchanged.

  • In short: 3G does use less battery than 4G.
In long: Regardless of the technology, low signal or constant switching between modes will drain your battery very fast. That's why it is better to turn off radio when you fly because it will use a lot of power to search.

  • Thanks. I'm using an xperia e4g. At the moment 4G seems to be lasting longer. Maybe a stronger signal.
