Kris Kringle at Work

Howdy,

So at my new work they are doing Kris Kringle. I haven't been there long and haven't done KK in years but offered to take part. It's due in tomorrow and stuck for ideas. Spend limit is $20. Can I just email him a gift card woolies, bigw, etc. Do these get sent out straight away if I buy it from the source and not Scoopon etc?

Any ideas (serious ones ;)) appreciated,

Frantic

Just get a nice box of chocolates, everyone loves chocolates- male or female and regardless of age.

    • thanks.. was leaning towards this.. like cheapie + gift card.. but a nice box would be sweet

      • Rather than Lindt or anything else from Coles/Woolies, try for a specialist chocolate maker like Josophans, Koko Black, Haighs. If you have no time, IGA often have more specialist brands.

      I don't like chocolate.

      • +2

And that's why you're sad and crying.

On the other note, even if you don't like chocolate, its something that can be shared with the family- adults and kids. Wine can't be given to kids.

        • And that's why you're sad and crying.

          +1 :D

  • Bottle of wine? Red for him, white for her.. Safe bet.

    • +1

we're actually in that business.. kinda.. so would be kinda funny as well.. thanks

hhmmm wine, I bought a bottle of nice red for my first KK at work. It was for my manager. it was awkward (but luckily it was obviously anonymous) as he is a reformed alcoholic and hasn't touched booze in 12 years. everyone laughed when he opened it and I was like "ha ha ha , yeah that's funny, WTF?!?!?"

      • -3

Yeah that's kinda rude that no one told you. He should've sent out a reminder email.

Still if his partner drinks it won't go to waste. Worse case he uses it in cooking.

        • Why should someone have to broadcast that they're an alcoholic? Many people don't drink alcohol for many reasons. I wouldn't assume that alcohol is an appropriate gift unless you've seen or heard about them drinking first.

    Oh, a Secret Santa.

  • The spend limit's $20, so you could settle for $15 if you wanted to. You'll find an assortment of chocolates at the big supermarkets and you'll get some change from $20 easily.

    • just wondered if there was anything weird about a guy giving another guy a box of chocolates :P

      • But he wouldn't know it was you?

        • ah crud.. forgot how it works.. I thought in the end we reveal ourselves? Haven't done it since Primary school

        • @Frantic: everyone might have slight variations but I think the general rule is you pick a name from a hat, buy that person a present and don't tell anyone who you bought for.

        • +1

@onetwothree: I've done it where everyone guesses at the end.

        • @knick007:

The guess doesn't have to be correct though…

      • +1

No, what's really weird is some old guy making gifts for kids for the whole year, then rather than giving them to the kids in front of their parents, he sneaks into the house and leaves them there. Now that's creepy.

A $20 note will be the gift of the year in your KK

    • I would be happy with that. :)

    • OMG… I thought a WOolies gift card was the best thing ever.

$20 note, straight off the bat… is even better. It's pure and raw.

Who needs a crappy gift that they don't want, when you can have $20! THE GIFT OF CHOICE AND FREEDOM

    Myer, personalised jar of Nutella

Someone did a great one today - coffee card loaded with $20 from local coffee shop!

  • Board games at Big W are $20. Found Big Bang Theory there the other day but was the only one there.

  • Grab a bag of Haigs frogs

Everyone loves chocolate and Haigs is a bit more interesting than Lindt or Cadbury.

  • I wished I got jerky for KK!! that would be awesome and yummy

  • a bottle of vinegar

Buy $19 worth of $1 scratch its. Ask a newsagent if you can empty their bin near the lotto counter for scratched scratch-its. Throw them all in a shoe box and shake it around. Enjoy watching them go through the box looking for the 20th $1 scratch it that isn't there.

Give them a receipt you donated the money to charity.

Won't hear a single complaint, as they will come off as a Dick.

    • -1

That's the most evil thing you can do to kids at christmas…..

      • You're saying OP co workers are Kids? huh?

        • Everyone is kid at heart @ Christmas…… :P

    • +1

My employer gave us all such a gift one year. The way I see it, they gave a gift to someone else and gave me zip. Which is fine, but get your thank you from the charity, not me.

But I guess I can be a bit of a Dick at times. :)

Doesn't get any better than this for a KK and still within your budget: http://goo.gl/EYkY8v

  • The things which came up in our Kris Kringle this year:
    -itunes gift card
    -frisbee
-cosmetics bag with cleanser, moisturiser etc
    -adult colouring book
    -toffee selection
    -selfie stick

    last year we had
    -tiny popcorn machine
    -diaries
    -chocolates
    -lottery ticket
    -beach set (spade/shovel etc)

if you're slightly below budget, do what I did this year and go buy a nice Christmas decoration for the tree from Myer/DJs etc.

    Nerf gun.

  • +2

I heard about a reindeer toy that you squeeze and it shits out chocolate covered sultannas.

  • +3

    KPOP album

    • That's like saying "Music album" :P

    • Best present ever! Big Bang please :)

  • +3

    2000 $0.01 steel-cut multi tools

  • +1

Just buy something fun. Nerf guns are surprisingly awesome for example. Or a remote controlled helicopter or something. Plenty to choose from in that price range. Depends on the person you got though, but if he is male and under 40 it should be good. Saw a Dilbert almanac at post office when I picked up a package a couple of weeks ago, can't do wrong with Dilbert in a work environment.

  • I got them a $20 woolies gift card.

Good for Woolies, Dan Murphies, Big W etc.

But as mentioned above, I don't think it's as good as a raw $20 note. I would want this for SECRET SANTA

  • Soz guys forgot to update..

The bloke is in to drawing and super heroes.. so popped down to Aldi a few doors down and grabbed a Marvel coloring set and threw in a 6 pack!

The gay dude at work helped me out and wrapped it up for me :-)

Turns out it was the secret kind.. but I got an old comic book/novel which brought back some memories and figured out pretty quick who it was :-)

Thanks for all the suggestions.. maybe it can help others who are stumped, and hope you all have an Awesome Xmas/NY!

    • Marvel coloring set

      Like… a colouring book?

      • +1

Most gifted book this year! Those colouring books.

        • They had Star Wars.. but I liked the Marvel better

      • well yeah… they said he liked drawing.. and pencils and stuff ;)

  • $20 gift box with nothing in it… always a bit of fun :)

  • +1

Maybe you could have simply made a donation to The Human Fund on his behalf.
