Public Service Announcement For Anyone Considering Spintel For Their NBN Needs... Don't.

Hiya All,
Been with Spintel for almost 2 weeks now… for more than a week of that, I've been playing email and phone tag with their ahem customer service department… I will update if this matter is resolved in a satisfactory manner, but their FB page tells me I might be dreaming… Here are the speeds I'm sitting on on the tier 1 (12/1) NBN Fixed Wireless connection:
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4919666776
WE're currently 47 hours into a stage of, "the fault has been lodged and we'll get back to you within 24-48 hours…"so we shall see… But at this stage, if I can stop 1 fellow OZB from making the same mistake, my work is done.

Kinda thankful for month-to-month plans though.

UPDATE 17/12: I received a call from Spintel this afternoon, advising me that their wholesaler (Optus) has advised that this has been caused by network congestion and is expected to be fixed mid to late January 2016, I have requested a discount or free speed upgrade for the duration based on the fact that they are unable to provide me with the service I have paid for, they will apparently get back to me.

UPDATE 20/12: So, a quick update… No word back from SpinTel regarding a discount/upgrade for not being able to provide the agreed service, and I received an invoice for full tote odds last night- waited 20 minutes on the phone before requesting a call back to discuss.
No word back from my response to @SpinTel (Gina) on this site either, despite responding to their PM (and following up to ask for a response).

So, I guess my question now is, given that this issue is apparently due to network congestion, will resellers such as Skymesh and Internode have the same problem?

  • wow Thanks for this they are off my list of possible company to choose if tpg ever goes bad. then. though TPG has worked perfectly fine for me for over 6 months after iprimus told me to leave after me complaining about insane 300 pings making gaming impossible.

  • As I said, if I should me pleasantly surprised by some sort of positive result, I'll let you know, in the meantime, I'm happy to share my experience…

  • Have you visited whirlpool lately?

Check out the complaints for spintel there. Whether it be phone or Internet, they don't have a stellar record at all. The threads go for pages and pages and pages.

    Avoid like the plague.

    • Alas, I had not checked Whirlpool (or even Facebook) for their feedback… Lesson pretty well learnt, barring an apparent out of character service level.

  • Yeah mine is pretty crap at the moment (on tpg).. Only getting ~85mb/s, but I suppose the weather here has probably affected things.

    • I'm thinking a move to Skymesh or Internode is imminent.

Hope the weather wasn't too nasty on you.

      • +1

Nah, my home location normally gets storms a lot, and my workplace floods if someone cries a bit too much in the car park.. But this time around the storms missed us and hit the east instead. I did watch this lunatic take off in his little plane at bankstown during the peak of it.. Let's just say he probably needs new underwear.

  • Good to know.

i have them via copper at the moment (with no issues) but we are scheduled for NBN 1st half of next year. i have been shopping around anyway so i'll avoid them

  • I guess you have tried all the things to check your end of the line… isolation test, different modem, computer?

    • Tried everything barring the modem bit, but have been advised that it is due to network congestion.

  • Hi Adz81,

I sent you a private message. Please let me know so we can assist.

    • Hi Gina,

      PM sent, thanks.

  • So… an additional question… Given that this issue is apparently due to network congestion, will resellers such as Skymesh and Internode have the same problem?

  • interesting I need to follow this I am with Spintel, maybe I need to change

    • Like I said, I'll update if anything does or doesn't eventuate… Hoping for one of those, "Good News Stories"…

  • UPDATE 20/12 (PT 2): Received my call back from Spintel and they have offered a $10/month discount on the months affected until the congestion issue is resolved.

Not an awesome result, and I had to do a whole lot of chasing/phone calls to get it, but better than nothing— very worst case, it saves me some $$ as I investigate other options in the event that they are not being 100% truthful about the congestion and I change suppliers.

Nil thanks for the token offer to look it up from the "rep" here, why engage if you're not going to act? At this stage, I can't say I'd recommend them, more a, "try at your own risk, but do your homework" (the homework that I neglected to do in the first place).
