Selling Flights to Japan

I bought some flights to Japan when the Jetstar sale was on. Unfortunately, something else has come up and I'm unable to go. To pay the least amount possible, I bought the ticket from Cairns to Japan, and another one from Melbourne to Cairns. The returns flights are the same deal.

A couple of questions…
What's the best way to go about selling the tickets? Group them or sell them individually?
Where would be the best place to sell them?
How easy is the transfer of names?

Thanks guys.

    Tough.

If you group them you limit your sales to people flying from/returning to Melbourne.

If you seperate them you run the risk of not selling the Cairs/Melbourne leg.

Best place to sell would be Ozbargain, Facebook. maybe Gumtree.
Ease of transfer I'm not sure. You'll need to see Jetstar about that.

    6.1 Ticket not transferable

You must not give or sell your Booking to anyone else to use. Except to the extent required by law or provided under the applicable fare rules, a Booking is not transferable to another person. If someone else presents themselves to travel on your Booking and we discover that that person is not you, we may refuse to carry that person. However, if we do not discover that the Booking has been transferred and as a result carry the person or give them a refund, we are not obliged to replace your Booking or give you a refund.

The applicable fare rules may permit you to change the passenger name and create a new Booking if you pay any applicable fare difference and change fees.

      That'll kill the thread.

        dont shoot the messenger =)

        • I just rang Jetstar up and clarified what that meant. It means the seller can't transfer it to someone else while it's still in their name. Once the name has been changed, there is no issue.

since you did manage to get thru to someone

did you ask them how much it costs to do so on "sale" tickets?

i am interested to see if they have changed their ways since last time i tried it

How much does it cost to change a name on a return Jetstar flight to Bali? About $600 a head.

A Jetstar passenger who originally booked sale flights for $121 return in October last year – landing an awesome deal – was hit with the news this week.

He hopped onto the Jetstar website to switch the names after two of his mates pulled out of the trip. Luckily, another two said they’d take the spots so he didn’t have to party in Kuta and wear Bintang singlets on his lonesome.

He found if the flights were booked today, to leave at the same time, they would cost about $550 – or less than the cost of changing a name on a ticket.

Reaching out to Jetstar, a support person by the name of Maico on the company’s online chat said changing the ticket for two people “would only be for $1,184.00 AUD”.

after changing the cheap flight names and paying the fee, then trying to sell them inclusive of that cost you're not going to find any takers nor will you want to pay to change the names

    • i had pretty similar experience when i tried to find someone else after friend backed out on the 2 for 1 special (*some years ago, unsure if it has changed since then)

basically….it was not worth the money it cost to change

you could easily buy a new ticket for the price it cost to change a ticket

  • Would your unexpected event be covered by travel insurance (assuming you purchase that as well)?

And also, you booked Melbourne to Cairns leg as a separate ticket? If Mel to Cairns is cancelled or a long delay for any reason, then you will miss the flight to Osaka as it is only 3 hours between the flights. A bit better window on the way back.

  • Not sure if any of your friends or family want to go to Cairns for that long and travel with just carry on luggage. If you do web or mobile check in, print the boarding passes and go straight to the gate for boarding, they don't check for ID or at least they have never checked for me.
