Asahi Super Dry 500mL Cans — $65 Per Case of 24 cans (My Dan Murphy's Required)

1310

This is for the 500ml cans that are imported Asahi from Japan instead of the ones manufactured in China I believe

Pretty good price for a carton (24 x cans)!

    A useless comment i know
But in my mind, $65 for a case of beer (24) is hardly value or a bargain.
i could care less its 500ml cans

You can buy 25x500ml cans of Beer in South Africa for $24.99
Yeah, hardly a fair comparison, but still…. $65 for 24 beers is no bargain.

I'm not going to neg you, but by your logic you'd complain even about the cheapest rubbish beer in australia like XXXX which is over $40 a carton.

It is definitely a bargain for beer brewed and "bottled" in Japan.

      • -5

        How is it bottled?
        Its cans.

This beer is a glorified university (profanity) beer at best.
Plenty of good and boutique local products for cheaper if you are that way inclined.

        • +1

Hence the quote marks around the term bottled in my post. XXXXed if I know what the correct term is for bottling in terms of cans.

Is their an ignore user function on this site?

        • @RojoMojo:
Im an avid asahi drinker and I refuse to drink the stubbies.
I was living on this stuff when I was in Japan.
It's dry but it goes down so well in any season.
The difference between the stubbies and the cans is chalk and cheese
Sure, you can get cheaper beer but do they taste as good?

      • Asahi is Japan's XXXX

        • In terms of popularity? Possibly. In terms of taste? Not even slightly. XXXX when you drink it tastes like they make it from the sweat of vagrants.

Welcome to Australia, the Island country where everything costs an arm and a leg because the logistics of getting it here are bonkers.

      • +1

High labour rates is the prime reason. The two 20yo's on their iphones behind the counter watching you pick up a slab are getting paid more than $50 an hour (incl super, etc) on certain days - each. The logistical cost itself is peanuts

        • Doesn't most of the cost of a carton of beer go to the government as tax?

        • @Mobe1969: yes, and then there is that… lol

    • +2

And how much are those exact beers here?

      • +1

Yes, I'd love it if I lived in a country where the liquor taxes weren't utterly insane. But not like I can do anything about it, so why complain. Ah well.

    • +1

Just mix metho amd cordial mate, its even cheaper

    • I only negged you because you said " I could care less". Its I couldn't care less. That always bugs me for some reason. Lol

  • +3

Ahhh nice! Just got back from Japan where I enjoyed grabbing one of these each night for like $3 from 7-eleven. Developed a taste for it, awesome beer.

    • Me too, man i miss Japan. Those strong zero 9% drinks are awesome too, 500ml can for like $1.50.

      • +1

Haha yeah. I tried the blood orange, lemon and dry ones. They were gross IMO but potent as hell. 3.5 drinks in a can is awesome.

        • +1

I tried a blood orange or melon one which was really gross. Likd the lemon and the lime ones though. Its funny how spirits are so cheap there and beer costs around the same as Aus.

        • @nubzy: Yeah it was gross haha.
Best thing I saw was a 4L containro of cheap Suntory whiskey for something like 2800 yen.

        • @nubzy:
That always struck me as nuts. It was like alcohol of any type way abnormally close in price per litre irrespective of what it was, beer, wine, spirite, sake. Given some of the info above posted on their malt tax I can see why, partly.

  • So the savings is $6 from DM's RRP?

  • +3

Super cheap. This is even cheaper than if you bought it in Japan.
Best price there seems to be about 5800 yen (incl tax), which at today's exchange rate is just over $65.
If only I hadn't just started that health kick…

    • +5

Relax, that health kick can wait until the new year.

You need a new years resolution after all lol

      • +3

Play some nostalgic tunes and drink beer for a month is what I say. And as for health? Just eat average portions and not 3 big meals every day and you're right as rain.

  • +1

Thanks, bought with cashrewards - now the fun wait A) to see if it worked and B) if A) proves true, 12+ weeks for the $3 to become accessible

Took like 3 min for DM page to come up through CR too so hope it will be worth the wait

  • +6

Long time OzBargainer first time poster. OP, you should be able to get this for $58.825 with the following handy work:

    1. Purchase Woolworths giftcard through cash rewards at 5% off. Spend $61.75 for a $65 value giftcard redeemable on DanMurphys (DMs) website.
    2. Get 4.5% cashback via cashrewards for beer purchases at DM's. Note this is 4.5% off of $65 - so $2.925 cashback.

    Brings total to ($61.75-$2.925) = $58.825!

    • Seems to have worked, now to wait for cashrewards!

Preston, VIC had heaps of stock when I picked up at 8:30pm last night by the way.

      Raz

  • if i click through from cash rewards, then activate pricepal - does the later over ride cashrewards - or do they both work?

    • Double dipping?

Sounds awesome, but not hopeful that it works…….

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

      • tried but they had sold out on this deal. i shall attempt again in the future :)

  • Bah. For whatever reasons stores around me are showing them in stock - but won't allow me to click and collect. I'd have to ship them, which at the cheapest is $14.

  • just had my order cancelled due to out of stock… systems levels must be slow. thx to the OP though.

    • same :(

  • +1

    Extra $10 off $150+ use promo code "GIFT150"& 3.5% @ cashrewards

    • Yes, I was trying to do that, but the other items I wanted to make it to over $150 weren't available instore, and it doesn't allow splitting an order pickup/deliver.

I wish they had a cheaper click and collect for stuff they don't stock, so they just get sent to the store using their normal warehouse distribution methods.

  • Just got mine, thanks OP

  • -2

Does anyone know the expiry date on these?

  • Mix this with the First choice amex offer of $30 back for $100 spend with click and collect in vic and get 2 slabs for $100 when they price match ;) It just gets better!

  • All cases sold out in Sydney NSW now.

    • It was weird. I'm in Brisbane, and I placed an order at Chermside, and I got an email telling me it was ready, then later on they phoned me from the store saying they didn't have it and would contact me when available.

      • Just got off the phone with DM and it looks like it's sold our Australia wide :(

        • Hmm, I wonder if I'll actually get mine then. I might phone them up tomorrow if I haven't heard.

        • I just placed an order and about 15 mins later got the text that it's ready for pickup. Not going to pick up for a few days anyway.

        • @nubzy: You must've had stock at your local?

        • Just tried a few stores in MEL and seems to still have stock for click and collect.

        • @Shibuya: Yep looks like sold out for delivery and only available for Click and Collect if they have stock. What a bummer.

  • Can't find any stock available for C&C anywhere in Melbourne.

  • So it's $7 off the normal price, but delivery is $7?

  • i logged in and still showing as $71.99 click and collect…

    • It expired 2pm today, and I guess that was EADST, southern states DST. Looking at your post time, they must have ended it slightly early though.

  • Well this deal sucks. I ride a motorbike and there is no way this will fit in my backpack. Bollocks!

    • Scull the whole box before getting back on the bike

    • LOL. I ride a pushbike and I carry cartons of beer on it all the time. I got a carton of Kirin Lager (the Japanese made one) on the weekend. Damn the glass in those is heavy.

I have one of these, thanks to someone here making me aware of the device. A brilliant buy.
      http://www.topeak.com/products/baskets/TrolleyTote

      • Where did you get the Kirin from please.

PS - Does anyone know where you can get suntory premium malt beer (made in Japan) in Sydney?

        Cheers~

        • Genki Mart. They have it on special for about $70 a carton.
Suntory Malts - well last week I could have. Tokusen Australia. Sadly they had an ownership change and shut down their website. Maybe they still have a b&m store, but I don't know where. They were my only source for good price sake so I'm ticked.

        • +1

This is the details for Tokusen. Maybe their B&M store is still open

Well this deal sucks. I ride a motorbike and there is no way this will fit in my backpack. Bollocks!

      You ride the wrong bike.
I can fit 2 loose cartons under the seat of mine, one in the top-box and another 3 strapped on the seat behind me.

  • Received delivery today, but they sent me a case of 330ml bottles, not the 500ml cans. Aarrgh! Still sorting it out with DM…

    • Ah hell, they sent you Chinese version that are worth retail less than what you paid! I'd be more than just a bit ticked!

I'm amazed at your delivery time. I've never had anything from DM in under 8 business days. And I'm in Brisbane metro.

      • +1

Yes, definitely ticked :) I only ordered at all because they were the Japanese manufactured ones. I paid for the next business day delivery ($10), ordered yesterday, got it today. I think they are having trouble finding replacement stock for me now. (I'm in Bris metro too).

        • Hope it works out. At least to them giving you a refund and a gift card or something.

I'm starting to think I'm not going to get mine, after I got my "ready to collect" email, then the phone call saying "not ready to collect".

Thing is I guess I was charged for it…

          They got ozbargained!

        • let us know what sort of compensation you get.

        • @chriskq:
Not surprisingly, they weren't able to find a replacement case. They offered either a full refund (and they would collect the case they did send me) or I could keep the case of bottles and they would refund me the delivery fee of $10 and 50% off the purchase price, ie final cost would be $32.50 delivered. I chose the latter option, even though I wanted the "made in Japan" cans, the discount made it a good deal.

        • @capnstoobie: Bah thats pretty loose, but better than nothing. I was in Japan almost 2 years ago so have sort of forgotten what the made in japan version tastes like… none the wiser etc.

        • +1

          @capnstoobie:

That truly sucks. I'll be phoning them today see what is up with mine.

Personally, I'd have just taken the refund, unless I was looking for a cheap present for an in-law… :P
