  • if you want to measure stuff you plug in, head over to your local library and ask them if they have a Save Power Kit . These have a plug in energy monitor so can measure stuff to your hearts content.

    • Thanks. Nothing showed up on their website so ill give them a call tomorrow.

  • Should of mentioned it was a NSW thing, otherwise you can get a cheap energy monitor for $15 off Ebay.

    • I'm in Sydney so it fits :)

    • Cheap energy monitor at bunnings just under$10.

  • -1

There is a product many people seem to swear by for this job known as a Kill-A-Watt.

Or there's so called smart powerpoints which are a powerpoint with a computer attached that does nothing useful. Given nerds previous history of unloading fitness and tracking gadgets that are wildly innaccurate I would have serious reservations about using a smart powerpoint in this manner.

I would look around and see if you can hire a Kill-A-Watt.

  • I have a whole house monitor called Flukso.
It uploads data to the web.
There are/were some similar devices from Efergy in the clearance section at Masters (but I don't think they upload data)

    • where did you get that from? I have used a heap of different ones over the years. The last one I tried was the google energy one a few years back it never really worked. I've been after a cloud energy monitor that has reasonable functionailty, also been on the lookout for bluetooth CT's

What's the GUI like? would you recommend to others?………do tell :)

      • I got it from the Local "distributor" RoweTel (who seems to be an Electrician in Adelaide).

Alternatively you can buy from Flukso (in Denmark I think) direct

I don't really use the Flukso.net GUI, I have the data upload to PVOutput so I can view my household consumption against my Solar PV generation.
I have an old Android phone as an always on display.

  • thanks,I'll have a look into it.

Would you recommend? Based on ease of use and reliability?

    Thanks again

    • It's been running flawlessly for more than 12 months now.
You need an electrician to install it though (and power outlet in/near your meter box)

Setup was pretty easy. Just connect a laptop with a network cable, go to 192.168.255.1 and follow the prompts.

  • cheers, I've got a sparkies licence so I like playing around with kinda stuff.
