How to transfer old Android phone to new Buzz 4GX?

Hi all, I just updated my parents Huawei Y201, running Android 4.1 ICS to a Buzz 4GX running Android 5.

They would like to keep pics, msgs,Viber msgs & contacts.

What's the best or easiest options?

    Back up photos

    — Install the Google Photos app and let it sychronize to the cloud. Note this can take several hours depending on the file size and upload speed.

But your photos actually live in the SD card storage most of the time — the Huawei Y201 shouldn't have that much internal storage to store media. Ensure all the photos are transferred to the SD card and you might not need to back up the photos.

Contacts sync automatically, assuming the phone has Sync enabled and you are logged into a Google account on the phone.

  • go into accounts and sync all data files with google cloud.
    contacts/sms etc
go photos make sure all the image folders you want are checked.
then go to photos.google.com - log into your account and make sure its all uploaded?

  • Cheers all

  • Late to the party, but I've been using SyncDroid for backing up ans transferring apps and files between devices.

    • Apps as well. Cheers. Any chance of transfering the calendar and notes aswell?

      • Apparently it does both, but my calendar and notes are in the cloud so I can't test it.

        • This doesn't seem to be free app. You need to pay $29.xx to register to use the features.
For free you can waste your time and create a backup from one device. But the next device will not connect or recognized even though the PC it self has the correct driver.

        • @rmamila: Still working fine on my PC so they must have changed it in the later versions. I had to get the correct driver from the manufacturer as the one with SyncDroid wouldn't work.

        • @Clear: I found an app called SMS Backup+ on play store which might work. It's free and it's icon includes GMail icon. It is backing up SMS history as well as call history into gmail account. While typing this it's still running and backing up years worth of data.
Next, I should install the same app on the new phone and restore this data. Hope it will work.

  • Plug the old phone into the computer and do a manual backup of the photos. If you do a bit of googling you can probably find out where the contacts are stored and backup that file as well.

If the contacts are syncing on their google account it should do that automatically.

As others have said you can use google photos as well.

Vibe has it's own backup/transfer method so do that and your parents should be set.
