Went into my local dicksmith today at lake haven to see if I could find any more deals and it turns out they have dropped the price of the canon EOS 70D to $599.
They also had an extra 10% off for mates rates, so it came down to $539. Plus canon is currently running a $150 cash back on this camera.
Not sure whether any other stores have stock, but I thought it would be worth a try for anyone else looking.
Sell the 450D on Gumtree and buy good lens with savings of 70D.
I already have good lenses, just need to get new batteries and a battery grip.

Staff at Robina openly admitted they put all their stock on hold before the store opened.
Ah the famous Robina clan. Seems nothing happened even after news.com.au reported on them publicly and dick smith hq promised a clamp down on such tactics by staff.
Their only stock was not held for staff. I called before they opened.

They only had one left. Just picked it up. Called real early before they opened and they held it for me. Xmas has come early for me :) drove all the way from Brisbane. They were really nice. Confirmed it is $539!
How does a store that's not open take hold orders?
I called the woodridge store and they did a stock check for me saying that robina had two in stock. So called robina after 10 tried someone picked up before they opened. Was able to hold it for me. Confirmed lens comes with it.
Nothing in Glendale & Kotara in NSW.
I tried Glendale first, nothing. Then headed to Kotara… some bloke had just beaten me, getting the one on display.
Yup she said to come in then when I was halfway she said she'd sold it. Mary Ann. Pretty thing. Sam was helpful too. But no luck! Oh well. That bloke saved me $400!!! :)

Called my local this morning. No stock of the 70D but has the Nikon D3300 SLK marked down to 499. With mates rates 10% off this weekend and 100 cash back from nikon would be $350
$389 70D > $350 D3300.
But then a unicorn is always better than most things :-/

None in WA.. Funny watching the three people run into the store grabbing the only stock and seeing the fourth guy get angry..

Nothing at DJ Castle hill. They had a nikon d3300 on display which they said they cannot sell plus a bunch of digital cameras not worth squat. Suprisingly they were marking down a bunch of other electronic goods like huawei mobiles 50% off. Bunch of pvrs and other older stock. Nothing really worth it though. DJ Castle Hill looks like they were late to the party re clearance sale.
DSE are completely hopeless with trying to run a sale where more than 3 of 4 of sale items are left nationally. Theres no stock anywhere… This post, unfortunately is equally as useless as not a single store in the state of Vic don't have one. Whats more, this wasn't on sale a week or 2 ago, even when it was scanned.. But couldve been with everything else 2 weeks ago. I'm glad 2 people got a good deal while the rest of Australia scoff and say 'why post a one off deal'?

I went to Canberra airport store add-on there the service person helpful and checked in his system only balconnen showed one stock but whencalled they told me they have none is a system error.
I also tried a few places in Melbourne with no success. I really wanted this camera.
Unless stock has magically appeared overnight, Wollongong and Warrawong are a no-go on any DSLRs.
Roseland, 2 stores in hurstville don't even have DSLR section
I really hate these instore deals. It's a crapshoot and odds are you'll waste a lot of your time.

I was at gungahlin stores and i got a really disappointing reply from the manager. He was yelling and said no stores has any camera. He said go home and call each and every store and try ur luck… I dont know why was he so rude…
I must say dick smith has poor hr selection process, otherwise this guy would not have made it…

Gungalin store is the one I always call to check stock of other stores, a nice lady always picks up and answers all my questions patiently. Canberra airport and Belconnen are rude in Canberra.
Picked up the last 70d in probably Brisbane and a Nikon 820 and 830 for about 50 bucks each

Congrats to people who manage to score gems like this, but honestly it's pretty much equivalent to a lottery draw. I've learned not to get excited when I see deals like this, let's just say I've been Dick-ed one too many times.

How un-ozbargain me…grrr… I was at Bourke st store on Fri night and was checking out the camera display. I saw the Canon 70D (now I know it is the last one) but it didn't cross my mind that price is extremely cheap… I didn't buy it and I have missed this deal.

Yep, pretty much a rort. I called up a store yesterday for the mate 7 and the rep told me they had stock and then calls me back 1 minute later with the store manager in the background telling him to tell me they don't have stock.

called Joondalup this morning at 11:15am enquiring and they told me 3 in stock in Innaloo & 1 in Perth CBD.
Innaloo phone engaged, so drive there and was told upon arrival at 11:45 that all 3 were sold as soon as store opened.
tried calling Perth from there, but engaged, so took a punt and drove down. Got there around 12:30 where sales guy mentioned numerous people had come in/called about 70D but was wondering why as they had no stock. He then offered to check the back if i was ok with a 'display model'…which I was. 2 mins later he came back with a brand new boxed 70D 18-55kit which he said was hidden amongst 1200D's!
$599 less 10% Friends & Family ($539) (less $150 cash back = $389). Xmas came early.
Im glad that other people actually managed to get one, feels dam good to happen upon such a ridiculous deal.

No luck at Belmont Perth wa. And he told me he never had stock lol. And told me try out baldivis, called, being told sold out. I really should have bought one instead of a full day part time job…
rang up a few places south of river [perth] - all no stock but one guy checked the system and theres one in broome

Jb have told me they won't price match any of dick smith's heavily discounted sales items. At the end of the day, they said they know DS is in trouble and they don't have a fixed price matching policy, its discretionary…which is a pretty 1 sided deal - they want to you to go check with them before you buy from a competitor, but don't genuinely try and beat a price.
Jb rarely ever price match. I tried to price a game which was only $5 difference with a large retailer Harvey Norman and they refused.
I try to avoid Jb usually,I don't find there prices cheap.
