Credit report and applying for new card

I obtained credit reports from 3 reporting agencies. It shows all credit enquires over last 5 years. Interestingly they are all different. It leads me to believe that not all banks use all the agencies. I am wondering if this information can be used to get an advantage when obtaining a credit card. e.g. Citibank only uses veda, NAB doesn't use D&B etc.
I am thing of going for the coles mastercard 0% interest for 15 months offer, wonder which agency will they use.

  • They used Experian (couldn't find me but said I was approved anyway) and another one I forget which.
I'm really worried about the way they just hand out credit, my total credit limits are almost as much as I earn in a year, that said, I pay them off before they are due.

Any reason why you wouldn't go the no fee route?

    • All the credit reports are free.
I currently have cards with CBA, ANZ and Citi. Want to get a 0% interest on purchase for 15 months offer. Both NAB and Coles are giving this deal. I have NAB bank account and had a card with them which I closed earlier this year, so it will be easier to apply at NAB. But will they give me a new card, I want like a 15k limit (1k spending for each month). NAB card has annual fee. On the other hand I will be a new customer for Coles but I have my car insurance through them. They have a fee free card, or with fee but no surcharge on international transactions, but how much limit can I get?

      • Expect a sub $4k limit from coles, most comments i've seen suggest they are the least generous of all the credit cards.

I had a nab 15 month premium card, didn't use the card because of the 0% balance transfer. On two occasions they sent a letter which said spend $1 twice, and receive two free event cinemas tickets. So that's something to help offset that $90 fee.

      • 28 Degrees is fee free with no surcharge on international transactions

  • Afaik all lending institutions use veda, so while your credit applications might now show up via the other credit report agencies, the banks will all know via veda. So no, no advantage there for you :)
