Choosing Best Value Wireless Home Broadband

Someone we know moved into new place. Unfortunately even though there is copper wire to the place its never been conected.

Exchange is Mona Vale (data ID no. MONA:45) Cable distance of roughly Line of sight distance: 3002m. Possible cable distance: 4565m connection?.

Unfortunately Telstra have told him they can't get fixed wired broadband at the premises due to the exchange being full and no ports available. And also a very long waiting list.

An address check with Optus shows Cable stops seven houses away and wireless home broadband unavailable at his location.

Only remaining option is to get some sort of Wireless 3G home broadband. Until NBN HFC comes to the area some time in first half of 2017, provided they stick to the NBN 3 year roll out schedule. The problem is finding the best value plan for him. So after suggestions.

  • Have you chatted to your neighbours about their internet access?

    • Not me but he has. There all using some sort of wireless broadband in that corner of the exchange boundary. I wouldn't care about the distance to exchange if he could actually get a port. Its Just because of not enough ports they have to end up with substandard slow, limited and expensive wireless 3G broadband service.

Or should they just get sub par wireless broadband and in the mean time keep applying to all the available broadband service providers in the slim hopes that they apply at just the right time to snag snag any type of free port.
