I left after the data went from 4GB(or was it 5?) to 2.5GB to 1GB… yeah get real :(

    • +4

Guess it was either that or they go broke and drop all the contracts like Kogan did. I know which of the 2 evils I would prefer

    • +16

That was Telstra's fault. Aldi are just a reseller and at the mercy of the supplier. Aldi are (usually) the good guys. Telstra are the evil rent-seeking capitalists. Once the NBN is sold off to Telstra by the Libtards, internet prices will go through the roof.

      • +5

Lol and you think aldi aren't capitalists trying make as much money as they can?

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

        • -4

oh man opening for so many racist comments … must resist! lollll

        • -3

The secretive billionaire owner would want people like Thaal to think so.

        • +4

I must admit I got carried away by my overwhelming hatred for Telstra. It is true, the Albrechts are the richest family in Germany, and secretive like TPG's owner, and stingy like many other rich folk. The difference is, Aldi have never held a monopoly on groceries. If you despise Albrecht Discount, you can purchase food from several other retailers. Aldi aren't altruists, but neither are they rent seekers like Hellstra. Telstra has a near monopoly on infrastructure. Even if you don't purchase plans from them directly, the companies you use for your phone and internet have to pay Telstra off. And soon Telstra will own the NBN which is being built using public money. Capitalism functioned fairly well centuries ago, but in modern times there is a tendency for monopolies like Telstra to form, and once they have a monopoly, the comman man has to pay usurious prices for essential items and services.

Aldi are capitalists, but they aren't as bad as the other capitalists. Ideally I think all essential industries, infrastructure and businesses (including grocery stores) should be owned by the state, and private ownership only allowed for non-essential or niche businesses, such as film production, hotels and jewelry. Of course it won't happen. There are no socialists in Australian politics anymore, just neo-liberals who believe the free market is a infallible panacea.

        • @Thaal Sinestro: Agreed.

        • @Thaal Sinestro: Such hatred, such ignorance, such communism. Communism has been shown to fail comprehensively wherever it has been tried, and yet children like you rant about it like it will save the world. From what? From prosperity, progress and increasing standards of living. Mark Twain said it best - a man of 20 who is not a socialist has no heart, a man of 40 who is still a socialist has no brains.

Try to google up the bread queues in soviet Russia to see what state owned grocery stores deliver.

        • @Thaal Sinestro:
The biggest socialist is Malcom Climate Turnbull.

  • I'm confused (doesn't take much), haven't these "new plans" been around for a few months now?

EDIT: Ahh I see, they've extended the changes they made a few months ago, these are new plans. Improvements across the board.

I used to use Aldi when living in country Victoria. Back on Amaysim atm, awesome 4G at the front door step, unfortunately rubbish once you step inside. My Telstra 3G Wifi is solid full bars throughout the same house. But at the end of the day I'm paying $3/month for 3 months of Amaysim so the cheapskate in me wins. Might try Aldi after these Amaysim deals end, if they ever do :)

    • What's the $3 Amaysim deal you're talking about?

    • +2

Was with Amaysim several years back and had the same issue - weak indoor signal, while Telstra and Vodafone were fine. Problem was Optus only has 2100MHz at the nearest tower, while Telstra and Vodafone also have 850/900MHz (penetrates walls better). Can check your local towers and frequences at http://oztowers.com/

    • Was with Amaysim & Virgin, same issue, moved to Aldi and been with them for more than one year now. It's not 4G fast, but I am content with the speed and stable connection.

    • Does your device support LTE B28 ?

  • -2

This is just an announcement, not a bargain. It belongs in the forums.

    • You dont think getting 700 of something (Minutes of talk time) instead of 500 is a bargain?

      • why not go amaysim like im on $24.90 for UNLIMITED calls and text and 1GB data

        much better value.

        • +8

Because its Optus network. For some people that wont make much difference, for others it makes a world of difference.
700 minutes of talktime is plenty for me so there are only downsides comparing that this to amaysim

        • @Roary: https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/prepaid.html
          How about woolworths mobile?
On telstra 3g same as aldi
          $27 when using woolworths rewards
          $1000 calls
          unlimited text
          2GB + 500mb bonua data
Unlimited calls to other woolworths mobile customer.

That extra $2 is much much better value for the select people who need telstra network but still great value.

        • +10

          @holden93:

Thats close but I would prefer Aldi

The WW requires you to recharge on the 30th day. If you recharge early you lose your existing credit, if you recharge late you cant use your phone!
$1000 calls (lets say at 2 mins a call) = 900 mins so slightly better for WW there - granted

The WW 500MB bonus credit ends Feb 16 so in 2 months that's not a benefit anymore.
Slightly better data still 2GB vs 1.5Gb + 500MB Weekend - granted but
WW charge 25Kb whilst Aldi charge 1Kb blocks

50000 text (Aldi) to me is unlimited.

So apart from $2 extra you have the pain of having to wait until midnight of your 30th day and recharge as opposed to having it automatically bill you every month including months of 31 days.. That's not worth the extra 200 mins talk time which I don't need..

        • @holden93: Data Charged in 25KB blocks…

        • Yep.. But I dont think that makes a huge difference like Mb blocks used to

        • @Roary:
you realize that you have to wait to recharge with aldi aswell right? idk what you getting at with that one.

but amaysim is still the better option as unlimited calls and text beats a set amount any day.

and after what aldi did lowered the data from 5gb to 1gb i wouldn't trust them at all.

        • @holden93:

          No..
          https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/valuepacks
Did you know? You can set your Value Pack to auto recharge once it has expired so you don't have to worry about remembering to recharge again.

amaysim is Optus.. you are comparing an apple and an orange.

that wasn't Aldi's fault about the data change..

        • @Roary: it was telstra's fault which is why i wouldn't trust either of them.

        • +1

@Roary: People should keep in mind that Telstra 3G wholesale is nowhere near retail Telstra coverage. It's very similar in coverage to Optus, so it's very location dependant whether Optus or Telstra 3G wholesale would be better.

Only Boost gets full Telstra coverage.

        • +1

          @geforce2003:

They are changing to 1kb blocks on the 16th Dec from what I read in my email a day or two ago.

        • +1

@geforce2003: I believe that changes with these new plans. Going forward will be 1KB blocks for all plans including 'Pay as you go". Starts Dec 16

      • -2

        No. Because it's ongoing.

Yes, if the 700 mins is offered for the next few months only.

  • +17

Give the guy a break. I wouldn't have known if not posted

  • The L plan also has free weekend calls. Been looking at other "permanent" (i.e. not jumping from sim to sim every month to save a buck) Telstra carriers, I can't see anything better than this.

  • +12

WARNING:- These plans only include 50,000 sms thats only 1666 a day/69 hour/1.15 per min
What are we going to do with our spare time??? Post useless comments here?

    • +2

A true Ozbargainer would not let these go to waste..

    • I think that is likely to stop people from setting up mass automated SMS spammers.

    • +2

      Great for Warnie

  • +3

    Doesn't include mms? :-(

    • Nice catch.

  • Any good plan under $30 with some international call value??

    • +1

if you can stretch to $40, optus are 10GB month, unlimited domestic calls, and 300 mins international. For an extra$5 one time cost I got a data share sim so my son can use some of the 10GB ….. I won't use it all.

I refreshed my plan that was $50 for 7GB before this.

Optus are moving more to all you eat calls (unlimited), but using data amounts to set their plans apart.

  • Oh the $15 plan is similar to what I had with Live connected. Paid $7.99 with live connected.

Very tempting after I use up all my sims I purchased for $10.

Also interested how MMS billing works.

    Edit: https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/svaluepack

After reading I'm totally confused.. Says gives you $12.50 for either SMS or 125 minutes of calls. Then it says 50,000 for SMS???

    Edit again:

So in summary for $15 plan:
    -50,000 SMS per month
    -125 minutes of calls
    -250mb of data
-Have $12.50 PAYG credit which is used for MMS which is charged at 30c/60c video or when you use up your SMS, call & data inclusions

    • The PAYG credit can give you 125min calls (10c/min) or 125 SMS. It is NOT in additon to the 125min calling.

  • is it extra 500 per weekend? Does it roll over the next weekend?

  • Cool offer.

Sometimes I see new plans like this and realise that data is getting cheaper, but then I see some PAYG plans that are hiking their per MB rates and it sends mixed messages.

Or it could be down to the ability of MVNOs to negotiate?

  • +1

The XL plan is now 4GB up from 2.5GB, plus 80 mins of international calls to a few countries. $30 for 30 day expiry. Extra GB for $10 if you run out. Great value!

  • +1

Hey does anybody suffer from poor Aldi / Telstra 3G data performance near congested areas (such as Flinders St in Melbourne). I suspect Telstra is now 'de-prioritising' Aldi traffic, many times I have full reception but can't open a light webpage.

    • Hm..

      EDIT:
Actually I don't think this is the same because you are still receiving full signal apparently.

  • I don't know how any of the plans mentioned are better than this, with the exception that some people need certain networks for their area:

    http://www.boost.com.au/$40-unlimited-pre-paid-sim-plan.aspx

This effectively has 11Gb data…. i get a resetting/non-rolling 2gb data every weekend (9pm Friday to 11:59pm Sunday) independent of the 3gb of data for the month…

    • Boost plan is good if you only need to use 2GB of data every weekend and you dont mind manually recharging every 30 days like Woolworths!!!

For $5 less you can get Aldi with more week day data. 43,200 mins talk time (kinda a lot!), international talk time,

      • Fair enough….

Does the weekend data on ALDI plan reset every weekend like the BOOST one?

        • +1

Pretty sure it resets every month along with the rest of your data. Its 500MB a month not a weekend

  • -2

Spintel is better as it offers the same for unlimited calls and more flexibility

    • How are you even coming close to that aldi has to offer for 25?

      • Spintel costs $27 for unlimited calls and its 4G
        Aldi is $35 for unlimited & 3G

        • But less data and Text….

        • @yoyomablue:
Spintel is Optus.. Not the same..
Also the $27 plan is 500 Mins, 1000 text and 1GB
A lot worse on an inferior network!!

        • Spintel unlimited calls, 1,000 text, 4GB data = $35. Very similar to Aldi XL plan.
Spintel unlimited calls, unlimited text, 4GB data = $37.

        • @Roary:
You can actually have unlimited calls on a $23 plan

        • @shadow131:
          But more flexibility and cheaper

        • @yoyomablue:

With 200 text and 500 MB.. Thats not the same..

          On an inferior network also..

You are yet to show how Spintel offer is better!

  • Have been with Aldi since… Close to when they started and have had no issues from PAYG to monthly plans, unlike with some other even non-retail providers. Sure this is not a bargain, but not looking to change either. Not affiliated or anything, just got the shits with the "service" from optus/voda.

  • Are there any plans for ALDI to go 4G anytime soon?

  • do they have "up to 2 days delay" for their mobile usage, not really useful even when telechoice had different 50, 75, 100% notification, got one time where mine was delayed by 7 days with telechoice?

anyone using telechoice (Kogan offer, moved from liveconnected, currently on global liberty starter $20, after Vaya took over), considering to switch their plans to Aldi?
there are not much detail about how much they charge for 13, 1300, and 18 calls as sometimes they are not included in plans or separate charges?
thinking of their M plan… (more heavy on the data + sometimes calls to those 13, 1300 and 18 to sort some bills).

the only thing might be they can change their plan after a few months notice which are on-top of the PAYG base?

In my experience, tried telstra and optus MVNOs, telstra coverage is better than optus and I have experienced better reception indoors also..

    • Are you stalking me??

I am on telechoice (Kogan offer) after leaving live connected when they put up their plans after Vaya takeover..
