Just bought Guitar Hero Live for the PS4 for $98.
I got mine from Big W in Hurstville.
There were lots of XB1 ones left, not many for PS4.

Compared to EB Games, they had it for $128 a few stores down.

Target has it for $99 if there's no BigW near you.

  • I'm seeing this go down in price fairly quickly, anything wrong with it?

    • So am I. This game is pretty good and the controller is better than the one they had in original Rock Bands / Guitar Heros… However, I feel the age of the big plastic controller is well and gone…

    • Nothing that I have noticed. In the first few weeks they had a pretty small range of songs to play, but it's grow a lot since then, and no signs of stopping.

Only one thing that may discourage people from buying, is that you have like 3 types of in-game currencies. 1: for playing each song, 2: a premium currency for doing whatever you want (not for upgrades) and 3: for buying upgrades, visual changes and addition number 1 currency (get this in every song you play).

^ What's wrong with this is that if you like just playing the songs you want to, you can easily run out of currency 1. Only way to continue is to buy some with currency 2 (premium) or play random songs (generated playlists).

It's not that bad though, as they do some weekends where it's unlimited play of any song you want.

      • So it's not like other guitar hero games where there is a set-list and you can play them freely (as long as you have unlocked them in the campaign/used cheats)?

        • Nope, although what I'm talking about is the multiplayer aspect.

The campaign is the same as the old apparently (first GH I've played a lot of), once you unlock them, you can play through whatever you like, as many times as you want. Although there isn't that many songs. 30-40 roughly, didn't count.

  • Any veterans of GH3-era played this new version? Is the layout of the guitar a major difference?
I'm an expert on the GH3 guitar, but don't know how I'd go with the 2 layer button guitar.

I'll refer to the 2 layers as top string/bottom string.

I played GH3 on Expert - Pro 'Through the Fire and Flames' player right here! I found in the new game; the top and bottom string to be a huge nuisance how it is set up onscreen. It shows 'empty' and 'full' notes. My brain is hard-wired to consider 'full' note being top string.

While the game was easy enough to get used to; my subconscious wouldn't let up and accept 'empty' notes are supposed to be hit up top. I struggled to get above 90% on some songs through hard difficulty, as when it starts getting a little more intense; I'd accidentally find myself playing the notes in reverse.

Eventually I found you can purchase a 'Avenged Sevenfold' board from the Guitar Hero Live TV screen. The board features full 'red' and 'white' notes; as opposed to the 'full' and 'empty'. Now I'm rocking it up on Expert again and loving it!

Great game, and its well worth! I just wish you could switch the notes at an earlier stage! Career mode still features the 'empty' and 'full' notes. I'd like to know if anyone else has the same problem in trying to get used to the notes onscreen! I'd also recommend to those people to look for the 'Avenged Sevenfold' Guitar Board upgrade (uses in-game currency you can quickly earn in Quickplay / Live TV).

The notes / guitar picks also point up for the top string and down for the bottom string. It takes a while to get used to but it's a lot of fun, especially if you liked the previous games.

        • I actually never noticed that, good to 'point' out! ;)

Its possible I'm seeing the wider end of the 'empty' note on the bottom, and quickly identify it as the bottom string when the game intends you to play the top (seeing the board as an hourglass figure?). I'll try paying more attention to the shapes, rather than them being 'empty' or 'full', see if that helps me when the solo's get tough! If it works; it would seem easier than trying to completely retrain my brain! I tried playing with 'lefty' flip on as a right hander to fix the issue; and needless to say - it was much worse.

I may simply be retarded… Its plausible… I seem to be the only person to find this as frustrating as I do, after about 4 hours on career mode, my stats were gradually improving; but I'd always get mid-solo and begin playing the notes all in the reverse order… the 'Avenged Sevenfold' guitar improves my stats dramatically! I must be very reluctant to change! Doesn't change the fact that it is a great game!

        • @Oipjo:
oh man I really wanna get this game but after reading your comments I know this will frustrate me as much as its frustrating you and nobody else playing with me will understand hahaha

        • @vers3: I wouldn't let it deter you! There aren't threads complaining about it (that I can find!), so it must just be me! Which is strange; as I usually pick things up quite quickly; just sharing my experience!… Give it a try in stores and see how you go! At worst; it is worth the time trying to figure it out - (hopefully faster than I do!) as great as GH3 for parties; with additional songs!

  • Moved to reply.

  • Big W has it for full price online whereas target has it for the same $99 price as in store and with free shipping or click and collect. Good for those who don't want to brave the shops atm or sending it as a present like I will!

  • These have been $98 since last week (I purchased this last week).

    • Cool story bro!
Maybe next time post it on Ozbargain instead of boasting about how you already knew.

      • Considering this was posted last week (albeit not specifically) in the catalogue that was linked. I saw no reason to submit what I thought was a double post.
