Cheap nuts in Brisbane

I'm after cheap, raw, mixed nuts on the south side of Brisbane. I currently get a 500g bag from Aldi that lasts me 2 weeks. They used to sell them for $10/bag but as of 6 months ago they're $12/bag.

Quality is ok I guess, the cashews are poor quality and usually have to be discarded so I'm not getting my moneys worth and that's what's prompted me to look elsewhere.

Any suggestions?

  • Coles.

    $3.75 a bag = $8 a key

These are for the salted mixed nuts. Ironically the unsalted costs more

    • I buy these and put them in a colander to get rid of excess salt.

      • good idea! how much salt comes out, btw?

        • A large amount. If you just keep shaking /swishing them around then most of the salt is removed. I use these nuts when making a nut roast so the extra salt isn't needed.

micks nuts in west end is great.fantastic range and great quality too http://www.micksnutsonline.com.au

    • 100% agree. Micks nuts is fantastic

  • And here I was thinking this would be a post about my in-laws ;)

Keep an eye on Woolies (and I would presume Coles) after Christmas, they tend to do fairly heavy discounts to clear excess stock they'd got in for Christmas. Not just the party stock, the regular bulk bags of raw nuts too. I got a heap last year. Not going to be a long term solution but just thought I'd mention it as it's that time of year again.

  • Sometimes I like to think of myself as a cheap nut.

  • So you came here to get information from cheap nuts all over the country.

I would look at Asian food supply places and the food markets.

  • Try golden circle factory outlet in Capalaba

  • I'm after unsalted nuts specifically because I have high blood pressure and am on a low sodium diet.

I only buy unsalted nuts and Micks nuts at west end have a really large range of unsalted nuts

  • Just wanted to follow up and say I visited Micks Nut Shop on Friday afternoon and the quality is better than Aldi. $12.50 for 500g ($25/kg), so 50c more than Aldi but with ING 2% cashback it came to $12.25.

They do sell 2kg+ for $24/kg which will match Aldi's price of $12/500g, so going forward I'll buy them 2kgs at a time.

    Thanks all!
