I've been looking for the 12" Macbook for a while and missed out on the $1619.10 sale at DJ's and $1620 at the good guys back in Sep/Oct.
This is the cheapest that I have found since then and managed to pricematch at officeworks over the phone, bringing the price down to $1566.55 delivered. OW currently has it for $1799.
Will be travelling overseas end of January so that'll bring it down to $1424 after I get the tax back.

Not a bad price considering the recent price hike by Apple!

    So eGlobal sells AU stock?

    • Not always but I can't tell based from the website whether the macbooks are Aus stock. The officeworks lady didn't seem to have a problem with their site.

        Must be a newbie.

        • +3

Agreed! OW only price matches Australian online stores that has Australian stock. That lady has no clue what's she is doing price matching a grey import site.

      • Do you have a receipt?

      • +3

Either you BS or the OW Lady was too busy / lazy to check the "Do Not Price Match" List. I know eGlobal is on that list and it is a straight off deny even if it is AU Stock.

No Receipt = No Deal! haha

        • Guess I was lucky! I do have a receipt. Like I said the lady didn't say a word.

decent ultrabook, however lack of ports and not so on par CPU make me want to wait for new mba come out

OfficeWorks will check first, and will not PriceBeat on private imports purchased from Hong Kong.

Will be travelling overseas end of January so that'll bring it down to $1424 after I get the tax back.

Assuming that your importation gets stopped for clearance and the tax needs to be paid. However, you will not be able to claim for the clearance costs.

    Also, delivery costs:-

    Insured Economy Express Shipping
    3-5 working days delivery
    $61.98

    Economy Express Shipping
    3-5 working days delivery
    $29

Officeworks has it in stock, no need for clearance, etc. Officeworks includes GST already and provides receipt.
I don't think they are buying from eGlobal.

      • +1

Price match/beat always should factor in delivery costs

Also this deal is about the eGlobal price, with Officeworks price beat as a further deal

        • Price match/beat always should factor in delivery costs

          So,
          $1679 from Hong Kong seller.
          $1799 from OfficeWorks.

Plus: What is an extra year (or more) of warranty (via the Consumer Guarantee) worth?

Also this deal is about the eGlobal price, with Officeworks price beat as a further deal

Not going to happen. Unless some slack OfficeWorks staff member does not properly check with their manager.

Plus, buying from an Australian seller one gets the (at least) Two Year Australian Consumer Guarantee.

STOP with the Positive Votes! Think before voting.

    This is not a bargain.

A $120 saving from an OfficeWorks retail price for a Hong Kong private import of an almost $2000 item - taking into consideration the loss of a year or more warranty, is not a bargain.

PLUS - When GST and clearance costs are added THERE WILL NOT BE ANY $120 saving!

  • Do you have a receipt that we can use to show the officeworks people??

Thanks haha. I meant if he did really buy it at officeworks then he would have a receipt right? Just wanted to see if I could show officeworks people

        Thanks for your effort a3

Haha, so much anger from some people. I posted this because I truly did manage to get OW to price match. I have the receipt. I'll try upload it later if you want!
Just so you know, OW are sending me their own Australian stock. I didn't purchase it from eglobal.

        • Thanks haha. I meant if he did really buy it at officeworks then he would have a receipt right? Just wanted to see if I could show officeworks people

Yup. As I said previously "Unless some slack OfficeWorks staff member does not properly check with their manager."

Please edit the title to show the correct OfficeWorks PriceBeat price of $1594.10

By the way. PriceBeats are not bargains. Also, your post is not a bargain, as eGlobal's sister site is $10 cheaper including delivery.

          @grugz:

Thanks man. If u do get he time could you upload the receipt. I think People are skeptical and I reckon they do have the right to be considering how lucky you got lol

@externalfire: Fair enough re: skepticism. Here's the receipt.

Office works price matches grey import sites?

Office works price matches grey import sites?

Private imports. eGlobal do not import these to Australia and then sell them - if they did, the Australian Consumer Guarantee would apply.

No, OfficeWorks do not PriceBeat items purchased from Hong Kong Stores.

      • I remember reading from somewhere online i think it was on the news or something, that even if the business operated overseas they are still liable. However the cost of recovering claims of ACL isn't beneficial so they don't care. lol.

I think there was a case somewhere online where somebody actually tested it and they won lol.

          The business is:-
          Entity name: TRUDARK PTY. LIMITED
ABN status: Active from 31 Mar 2000
          Entity type: Australian Private Company
Goods & Services Tax (GST): Not currently registered for GST
          Main business location: NSW 2128

However, buyers would actually be buying from and paying a Hong Kong business.

This makes for interesting reading - in particular the comments from Scotty.

I think there was a case somewhere online where somebody actually tested it and they won lol.

That matter was a little more complex. As it involved Kogan Pty. Ltd. (an Australian company) and Kogan HK Limited (a Hong Kong company). Kogan HK Limited was using the Kogan Pty Ltd .com.au web site to solicit orders. The buyer was confused about from which company he purchased. He was told to take his purchase to the Australian Distributors for warranty - he wanted Kogan Pty. Ltd to handle the warranty.

Sorry but this isn't a deal.

Since eglobal is a grey import site. DWI is cheaper.
    $1669 with free shipping. DWI

    • -1

DWI is the sister company to eGlobal. ALl run by the same shifty asian businessmen.

      • DWI is the sister company to eGlobal. ALl run by the same shifty asian businessmen.

        Exactly - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/57309

"eGlobalDigitalCameras' rep here on OzBargain is just a ghost account of DWI, and both logged in from Hong Kong…"

"My point was that the company registered the domain, "Trudark Pty Ltd" is not registered for GST so my guess is that it's just a shell company not involving in transactions.

While you might source from Hong Kong, i.e. your business is not paying GST, you are still taking money from Australians when you sell to them. If the annual turn over from Australian transactions is more than $75k (which I guess is easily achieved from an online camera shop), you would still need to register for GST.

That means Trudark Pty Ltd probably does not have more than 75k annual turn over (not likely from the combination of eGlobalDigitalCameras, eGlobalBeauty, DWI Digital Cameras, etc). That means Trudark is just a shell company and you are paying someone else — possibly a different business in Hong Kong."

What a load of toss…There's no way an officeworks employee would pricematch something this expensive to a HK based store.

  • +1

yea, but, will it run Windows 10?

    those tiles are sexy

  • Hey A3Australia, just to clarify you're saying Officeworks is bad and we should jump on this deal yeah?

    • Hey A3Australia,

      Hi skinner!

      you're saying Officeworks is bad

No, I can't see any comment where I said anything even close to such a thing.

and we should jump on this deal yeah?

No, it is not a deal. The same item is $10 cheaper from another Hong Kong store. There is only one year of warranty/guarantee.

Can anyone tell me why these companies that ship from OS can buy .com.au domain names? Its very deceptive and at one stage was not permitted?
