Cheapest price I could find for Mario Tennis Ultra Smash. Got this yesterday and brings back some good old memories of Mario Tennis 64.

It seems to be reviewed very poorly by most, for lack of gameplay, campaign and story mode…what makes it underrated in your opinion?
It has three minigame/alternative modes and its content is more streamlined in some ways but most complaints were big nitpicks that were copy/pasted from one outlets review/preview. Other games in the series had more minigames, but this still had essentially three.. Items returned as chance shot moves. One mode was the Mushroom battle, and its featured in the main single player mode, obviously theres Amiibo modes/training, online, online ranking, classic/simple modes, Megaball rally mode, knockout challenge…
The coin based / never ending Knockout Challenge gives the game a decent amount of replay, and alot of people enjoy this Smash Bro influenced style in Smash, in reality alot of people don't care that much about the cups, i see why people complained tho… Story is nice, but for this kind of game it really doesn't seem as essential, i think story mode in Smash worked far better, this is just a fun tennis game : )
People claimed there was only "1 court" which wasn't true, there was a variety of unlockable ones, they do toe the line between real tennis and wacky versions. Might not have been as wacky as predessors but its still there…. The game aesthetically might not have included stadiums, but still feels like an overblown complaint…
The Amiibo training/leveling modes gave the game alot of replay, and in reality alot of people have Ammibos (many even without the console have a lot for some reason), as does the Unlockable challenges, and the additional harder difficultly modes, characters…
The Classic/ Simple mode allows you to play closer to the N64 version, without chance moves or just play without Megamushrooms….
Sorry if thats jumbled, just trying to type quickly, hope its understandable, but yeah reviews were not particularly fair. Not that they are ever really accurate positive or negative… And no friend list in online was issue, but hey its free on Wii U and has a ranking mode. Not saying it was perfect but most of the hate was due to less minigame modes, while still not acknowledging the decent amount there…
Thanks for taking the time for your opinion, much appreciated!
No problem! I always encourage people to decide for themselves as opposed to just reviews/ youtubers.
@BNGames: True, I never relies on reviews, we should decide which game we should be getting and don't let reviews dictate us which game we should be playing.
I normally search for gaming news from gaming sites and YouTube and while I do read/watch reviews from time to time, I always try to find facts about the game and not their opinions about the game itself. Then I watch the gameplay trailer to see if the game is indeed for me or not.
Thanks mate, I'm a Nintendo tragic and the reviews put me off because I wanted a jam-packed game. What you explained here seems good enough for this price.
I love Mario games as much as any, but I've played Demos with more content than this… there is a reason it got awful reviews. I didn't take it back though, somewhat regrettably.
Had hoped they had xenoblade or splatoon but unfortunately not
I was just about to pay for this thing… then saw the reviews online, and really not worth the purchase.
I'd much rather take my chances on Gumtree for a 2nd hand $20 bux version for someone whos trying to get rid of it :(
Exrtremely Under-rated Game. Great find.
