Can buy other gift cards in BigW with BigW GC?

Hi all,

Made a stupid mistake bought a $500 GC from BigW on groupon without reading the title it's only available to use in BigW. I might use some of it, but just wondering any way I could use that GC to buy other GC? Any ideas how to "liquidate" my big GC? Can't see myself as big spender in BigW TBH these days..

  • Flog it off on Gumtree with discount? (Make no profit).

  • I think you can buy JB vouchers etc.
Apparently depending on the store manager you may be able to get away with buying wish cards.

Maybe buy a couple of things and then throw in a $100 Wish gift card. See if they flinch…what if you were buying it as an X-mas gift?

    • I hope you can buy Woolworth's cad as well ..

I was successful today in converting a $100 big w egiftcard (from Entertainment book) to a physical WISH gift card.

As mentioned above, your results are going to vary depending on the staff member you get.

Buying other goods at the same time will make what you are doing look less obvious. Ask for a flat amount for the gift cards you purchase, for example $100 rather than whatever is left on the egiftcard. It would be unusual for someone to request a plastic card with a value of $500 as this doesn't seem like a gift that would be given from person to person. Perhaps choose 5 different gift cards which you know you are going to use and load $100 on each(you figure out what works for you). You might have to use a different payment method for the Big W goods you are buying. Leave it to the very last second before telling the operator that you are using a Big W egiftcard as part or all of the payment method. Have the numbers you need for the egiftcard on your phone in some manner rather than carrying around a sheet of paper which looks like an egiftcard.

Make sure the new gift cards are activated and keep the activation receipts.

I tried getting my conversion done today at the Self Serve registers but the staff member looking after them said they couldn't load Wish cards on them. She took me to the customer service desk there staight away and I was able to complete the transactions. I left it to the last possible moment to reveal that I was making part of the purchase with an egiftcard and I didn't reveal what type of egiftcard I was using.

The above are just suggestions. I have no idea how well any of them will work and you will have to modify the suggestions to fit your circumstances. The most important thing is probably to not make it obvious what you are trying to do.

    • If only we could do it on self serve area. I probably just buy 5x 100 wish gift card and said it's for Xmas present, which I intend to anyway. Thanks for your input!
