What should I buy for <$1000
- mainly indoor portrait shots
- must have wifi remote app to android phones for composing and capture
- must have wide lens at least 21mm. Fixed lens is ok
- must have high quality image
- must be as small as possible (I find DSLR too big)
Pls give links to best price if possible
Thanks!
Camera Wide Lens with Wi-Fi Remote?
Comments
the rx100 does this thing he is asking for. you can connect it to a smartphone and control the camera from the phone, including live view of what the lens is seeing. so you could set up a tripod and take pictures of yourself, without using a timer and guessing what the picture will look like
bit of a gimmicky option, but could be invaluable in certain situations.i agree with the recommendation though, the rx100 is a great camera
the rx100 is a great camera
Yep one of the best one's I've bought. I've never used the smartphone control mode but I might try it out. The screen flips up though so it kinda has a selfie mode.
I can't believe how expensive it is now. I bought mine (A MK3) for $788 at the start of this year from JB then I got the GST back on it. It's actually worked out to be a absolute steal.
OP you definitely want the MK3 or MK4. Ideally the MK4.
This camera is also a brilliant value option:
http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/lumix-cameras-video-cam…Has a great free app for ios and Android devices to control the camera via WiFi.
4k video and external microphone connection which is essential if you want the very best quality video. Interchangeable lenses can be used from all manufacturers if you have the correct adapters. The body can be bought for $699 and there is currently a promotional offer where you get a free 25mm Panasonic prime lense worth $299.Definitely worth a look!
I agree with the Lumix G7, except the OP said they found SLRs bulky… So I figured a fixed lens high end point and shoot like the RX100 M4 was the best option.
I have a Canon 7D and just purchased the G7 and the size and weight differences are massive! I'm hoping I never have to use the 7D ever again :) The G7 is so small and light weight even with the 14-42 lense attached, its the perfect compromise!
Panasonic G7 shortlisted, but which lens (I want W I D E) and where for best price? Do they have international warranty?
Any other suggestion?
I looked at the Panasonic range and really like the GF7

Is it a good choice?
The things I like are
- Wifi remote app
- Size is quite compact
- Very interesting Jump mode - it takes Star jump shots when it is connected to a phone you hold
- Price is so good at $377 (consider the promotion at $299) - it's only $77!!
https://www.camerasky.com.au/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf7k-with-1…The not so good things are
- Res is only 16MP. Better if 20 or more
- Video is not 4K
- Lens included is not that wide at 24mm but acceptable and with the promotion I can always sell off the freebies and get a wider one
Does this even exist?? What the heck do you mean?
I think you should look at the mirrorless DSLRs or Maybe a Sony RX100M4.
This is probably the best compact camera out there. Excellent quality shots, excellent in low light. Fantastic 4K video.
No idea about the app requirement but you can get a remote accessory.
Teds have it for $1,299 with a bonus $100 gift card
JB have the MK3 which is still very good, again with a $100 gift card for $949.
