With dashcams becoming increasingly popular in Australia and the endless entertainment on Dash Cam Owners Australia, I thought I would share this deal on the GS98C Ambarella A7LA70 Dashcam from Geekbuying.

The dashcam features the Ambarella A7LA70 Chipset that outperforms a lot of the Novatek chipsets found in cheaper dashcams like the G1W. It's capable of recording 2304x1296 @ 30FPS and 1920x1080 @ 60FPS with good quality video in both day and night situations. It has a 170° wide angle lens with 64GB microSD card support and all of the other standard functions found in a dashcam. There is also a version that includes a GPS module.

It comes in two versions:

The GS98C Ambarella A7LA70 without GPS is $64.99 US (~$89 AU) with the coupon FSPUYHBR

And the GS98C with GPS is $71.99 US (~$98 AU) with the coupon MYKPENBI

    Lies about the original price
    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:__A9XBT…

Prev Price was 109USD NOT $180

    • Correct. The original price from Nov 26 was $109 US.

If someone causes an accident that isn't your fault. I ain't paying for your mistake buddy.

You could've asked in a less condescending way so as to not look like a tool.

Seems that way doesnt it. Getting negged by the dashcam nazis.

Insurance. You've got the evidence if you're in an accident or witness an accident. Particularly good if someone reverses into you and decides to tell the insurance company that you rear ended them.

    • +2

      you seriously asking this?
i dont understand how you dont understand why people would want a dash cam!!

have you ever watched dashcam videos on youtube?

  • No IR? Can it take night shot?

    • No IR, but it still does night time well. There is footage of it here and here. Youtube has obviously scaled down the quality of the video though.

    • +2

Infrared is useless (which is why most dashcams don't have it anymore), the IR LED's are mostly reflected back into the cabin of your car anyway because of your windshield and they are not powerful enough to illuminate anything past your car bonnet.

  • what is the sensor size? and is there an OIS in it?

    • Has a 5.0 MP COMS Sensor and I'm not familiar with OIS. What does it stand for?

      • Most probably an optical image stabiliser.

        • Makes sense. There isn't a lot of dashcams in this price range that have it. I don't get any vibration on mine as it's properly stuck to the windscreen and tightened.

        • @Clear:

Is there a proper mount available?

        • @LoopyLou: Only suction cup sorry.

  • +6

I wish car manufacturers would install a USB power source at the windscreen mirror mount. It would make fitting these so much easier.

    • +1

      Hell yeah.

    • I wish they just had good dash and built into the mirror

      • You can get smart windscreen mirrors with dashcams in them. They also run Android and the portion of the mirror is the screen.

        • I am interested in this Android mirror.

  • So based on your description OP, it seems you rate this dashcam over the other popular one?

Is the GPS function just purely so you have GPS tags on your pics/videos?

My only issue with this one is it looks so hideous…

    • agree, big and bulky, but then good specs

    • The Ambarella A7LA70 chipset outperforms the one in the G1W. For example, it can do 1080p@60fps while the G1W can only do 1080p@30fps.

Yeah, GPS is just so you have location for the footage.

      • The GPS allows you to record speed right? so you can see how fast you were going, braking accelerating etc.

        • Correct. It won't be as accurate as your speedo though.

  • Any comment about the unreliability of the GPS as mentioned in DCOA review?

  • .
I don't have a dashcam yet, but I like the idea of a small camera and a separate recording device there is a review from early this year
of one using the Ambarella A7LA70 Chipset on Techmoan it has both front & rear cameras it's the smaller cameras I'd prefer
