  • Is this valid at Event Cinemas?

    • I have no idea what Event Cinemas are… If they are VMAX, Gold Class, 3D, Marathon or Special Event screenings… then no it's not valid (see T&C reproduced above).

      • Event cinemas is Greater Union cinemas.

  • I recived a similar voucher this morning but dated was 2009. Just called Village cinemas to confirm that this one is valid or if someone modified it, and they have no idea of this promo… Anyone tried yet?

    • I haven't as yet… can you check the barcode on the one dated 2009 against this one?

      • Exactly same barcode… I'm thinking someone modified the old voucher…

        • Hmmmm guess the only way to find out is to try… anyone near a village cinemas or watching a movie tonite? hehe.

        • Yep, exact same barcode on both the 2009 and 2010 versions.

They both look sort of photoshoppy, you can see the cut and paste lines on the section at the top.

It's a great offer but I will refrain from using it until someone confirms it works. How embarassing would it be to turn up with a fake coupon! :D

  • Only valid for 10 more days… Get in quick.

  • but it said only for 1 use only ?

    • Print more than 1?

  • Can anyone confirm if this is legit?

    • I'm not sure this is legit. We removed a deal today with a 2009 expiry date at 3PM.

Richie, where did you get this voucher from?

      • Usual - forward from a friend, who probably got it from another friend etc.
ie not a legit source, like from village, or somebody that works at village.

  • Its funny that Village is clever enough to state "Not for resale" so it won't end up on ebay, i just noticed another seller is listing the hoyts $8.50 voucher on ebay, phew.

i'll be watching Shutter island tonight and we'll see if it's legit

  • this looks fake, if you zoom in on the dates on the voucher, it doesn't fit in with the other text. Someones altered this

    • You're right, the date looks altered.

    • +1

I agree, on closer inspection and when zoomed the lettering "February 28 2010. Coupons" is a teeny bit lower than the rest of the text on that line. Definitely seems, like it's been doctored.

So let's hope Village Cinemas doctored it and just did a crap job. :D Living in hope that I'll be able to head to the movies on the cheap.

      • -1

Hehe yeah, Village trying to save a few bucks and doing the alteration themselves instead of paying thousands to the original designer to change 2009 to 2010. =P

What I don't get is why would an individual (like you or me) want to alter the coupon themselves to 2010 when it's not a legit Village promotion (ie won't be honoured) and then spread it around. What do they gain from it?

Guess we'll find out if its legit when kwetty presents the voucher at the movies tonight lol.

          ego is one reason.

A feeling of controlling others. could be someone wanting to prank others.
Could even be someone trying to give people illegitimately discounted tickets, hoping it gets through.
          Could be a competitor.
          Heaps of possibilities.

Glad people picked up on it very quickly and are treating it with caution.

@SomeGuyOnOzB: Well if it is a hoax/fake (hopefully not) my apologies in advance for perpetuating it!

  • OP can you put this in the post, its a printer friendly version.

    • Perhaps wait until someone confirms that this is legit?

      • I originally found this on Event cinemas website at the start of the month, I may have found it on this site, I'll have a look.
EDIT: Didn't find the same bargain but this, same colour font as this one so either way, its event cinemas coupon.

        • Just had a look at your one - expiry on that is 2009.

          • @richiefong: ah I didn't see that. I had mine for a while, just remembered it when I saw this post, can change in CS3 for you.

EDIT: Here is the new printer friendly version, nothing illegal here just a edited version for all who don't want to use up black ink.

  • Looks like a fake. Notice that after "2nd Feb" the text becomes lower, its pretty obvious as the hyphen ( - ) appears as an underscore.

  • richiefong… would you happen to be wendy's richard? :P

    • lol the very same…she send it to you as well?

      • +1

:) can you guys check with her where she got it from?

    • By the way… who are you? =)

      • Originally I was wondering if this person the 2 of you know sent it to you, could tell you where it came from or if it was a prank on you two. :)

But I see it's already been identified as a fake in widespread circulation.
