Buying a 1TB PS4 (+Game) for under $400 @ Big W

  1. Go to BIG W Thursday for deal = PS4 1TB + Uncharted + 3MTH Stan valued at $448 (https://www.bigw.com.au/bigw-catalogues#view=catalogue2&saleā€¦)

  2. Buy 2 $185 BIG W Store eGift card for a $200 BIG W Store eGift card through Groupon. Thus, paying $370 for $400.

  3. Use staff discount card for an extra 5% off

  4. (0.95 x 448) - 30 = $395.60

I called up EB games and they said uncharted would only get me $25 store credit or $20 cash, which is shitty since it's valued at $78 on their website. Also 3 months of Stan (worth $30) is going to save me $45 from not using netflix… but i might buckle and just give it to a friend.

LET ME KNOW IF I MESSED UP IN MY CALCULATIONS OR IF CAN GET AN EVER BETTER DEAL

  • Those calculations looks correct. The only other thing I can think of is to check your email/everyday rewards account to see if you got a $10 off Big W offer as well which you can add on top. Looks like this. Received that yesterday morning here.

Also keep in mind that group deal says it takes 2-4 business days to receive so you'd want to do it soon, also stock levels are never guaranteed and you might be stuck with a gift card you can't spend as Big W have sold out (not sure how reliable Big W they are with these deals, just a general warning).

  • Hmmmm I haven't received that email… How would you go about checking it from your everyday rewards account?

And yeah I just saw that 2-4 business day thing and decided it's not worth the risk. Mostly because i'm worried it won't come in time - not really to do with stock. I called the Big W store I work at and they said they have plenty (still going to get there when store opens though!)

Thanks a lot though! Hopefully i find that $10 off coupon so since i'm going to be missing out on the $30 off from the e-Gift card.

    Still a great deal though.

Sorry Woolworths Rewards now, not Everyday Rewards, although I received the email offer from Everyday Rewards.

I checked my Woolworths Rewards and the offer doesn't even show in there so I guess it's email only. It might be a good idea to login anyway to https://www.woolworthsrewards.com.au and go to my account > communications to ensure you are ticked to receive email offers.

Yeah fair call about the gift card, you could play it safe though and get a 5% WISH gift card from somewhere that sends them instantly or quickly. CashRewards or PricePal might be the way to go: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/everydaygiftcards.com.au They appear to take 12 hours only:

With eGift Cards, enjoy the freedom of:
      SPEEDY DELIVERY
An eGift Card is typically provided within 12 hours,

Actually entertainmentbook.com.au have 7.5% off Big W eGift cards as well if you are a member there, they all go through the same everydaygiftcards.com.au website which claims to send them within 12 hours.

      • I think i found another way around it but i might run it by you just in case.

        1) Go to Woolworths and put $448 on a Wish Gift card and use staff discount code to get 10% off so i'd only pay $403.20

        2) Buy PS4 bundle from Big W using Wish Gift Card and use staff discount code to get a further 5% off reducing the total to $383.04

        • I don't know anything about staff discount and if it applies to gift card purchases and/or purchases made using a gift card. You would think that they wouldn't allow both though, sounds like double dipping, otherwise you could use it for anything. Eg buy a Woolworths gift card for 10% off using staff discount (or whatever the amount is) at the front desk, go in store and buy your groceries and then pay at the checkout with gift card and staff discount for another 10% off.

      • What did the email contain? Was it like a specific code that you use at checkout or something else? I didn't have email communication box ticked so there's a chance I missed out. Just curious to know how the offer worked. Thanks!

It was a link to activate the offer and sign up to Big W marketing communications. Here is the picture in the email

@hamza23: Oh so it has to be in store - I was hoping to get something online since they didn't have it in store. Thanks Hamza!

  • New to Ozbargain… How do I get a staff discount?

You pretty much just have to know someone who works at Big W/Woolworths/BWS/Masters and borrow it. Since it's only 5% it's pretty useless most of the time but it comes in handy in times like these!
