Great deal from Sony today on this Sony HTXT1. I personally got the deal from yesterday with the HTXT3 but this is good for those that didn't want to spend 400 dollars.

This is far cheaper than anywhere else I have seen it.

Considering whether to buy this for my desktop PC setup. Is this usable as an everyday speaker?

    • +1

depends on your setup as this is a sound base and will usually sit on a tv cabinet with the LCD on top

    • +1

How much room do you have? This is about 72cm wide. Also to be honest I don't know whether you'd lover the effectiveness of a little sitting directly in front of it.

Wouldn't recommend it for a PC setup (especially if you're gaming). From the site, "One very very big problem. Sound quality is a marginal improvement over the TV. Bass is almost non-existent unless you increase bass setting to maximum."

There is better to be had at this price range as far as PC speakers (these are aimed at TVs, where space and design are a large factor).

      • have about a 1m table which has my monitor on it taking up half the table

thanks guys, will skip this deal

currently have z523 from catch of the day $30~ which is quite low end but does the job

I have one, it's a massive improvement over my TV's sound quality (and it's a new, high end Samsung TV that I bought because it has decent sound). Space was a concern and this is roughly the same size stand under the TV (I have an inch free space on the sides) so it worked great. Go read the many reviews on amazon, there aren't many complaints about the sub.

If you're used to a big, dedicated sub you'll be disappointed, as it's a 10cm sub, but it's definitely bass-y enough for gaming/movies. I use it for music - it's not perfect but fairly crisp and definitely great for a jack-of-all-trades device, multiple inputs, ARC support, etc.

The size kills it though for a PC, unless you have a huge desk I have no idea where I'd put it. The nice thing about 5.1 sets, you can spread it out. This thing has a purpose, make use of the space under your TV that's not doing anything anyway.

    • I've been looking at sound bars for my setup as well. Still not too sure about the practicality of it, but it'll look nice and clean.

    • I've got audioengine a2 speakers, they are small and sound amazing when gaming. It's only 2.0 but I think that's all you need for pc. Wait for any 20% deal and you should pick up at decent price.

  • Amazing deal, only been as cheap as $259 before!

As it happened, I've just been looking at this exact model, and was hoping for more from the Dick Smith sale. It was down to $339 yesterday, but now back to $449 there. So for $199, aaaaawww yissss!

    • Some mentioned they were able to pick this up from DS for like $89. Same Sound plate as advertised on their website but it came bundled with a bluray player. It was left over stock from a previous Sony promotion.

      • May not have been this one. I was in Dick Smith the other day and asked about it and they said as it is a "current model" the deeper discounts didn't apply.

edit: was told some of the older soundbars/plates may have gone down to as low as $14!!!

        • Only the bundle was discounted.

        • I bought this htxt1 + sony BD player as a bundle at DJ westfield sydney for $89.7 only.they said its a demo set but I found it actually brand new. Great sound quality though cant compare with Bose.
Better to visit your nearby DJ and ask.

      • I asked about that in Dick Smith the other day and it was a promotion with a sound bar, not the HTXT1. Maybe some people got lucky though.

Anyway as someone who owns one this is great for a bedroom TV setup. It's also a little bit smaller than the XT3 if that makes a difference for anyone.

Nope I got the Sony htx t1 bundled with the blue ray for $89.

    • ditto!

    • Same here, got the last bundle from DJ-powered by Dicky at Castle Hill towers in NSW. Can confirm its HT-XT1 plus Sony BDPS3200 which is an awesome bundle for $89.70

      • Yup that's the one.

  • I wonder What happened to the original offer of 55" and bigger TVs. Which was supposed to start today?! False carrot advertising. I was looking forward to a new 55" deal.

  • Rack and Juzz0 you two struck lucky getting them for $89
I have never seen them bundled together.
only ever saw the bluray bundled with a tv i think???
How did you get such a good deal? walk into the store and saw it there?

    Missed the xt3 version grrrrr

    • Mate got it at Macquarie park. There was the price tag on it. Grabbed 1 . Another 1 day there even when we left.

      • It scanned as $89, it definitely was a bundle box with the blu-ray.

      Don't forget the $30 voucher+ cashrewards = $ 162.24
Makes this a fantastic deal with the great reviews.

      • I have an older tv samsung plasma yes need to upgradw and surround speakers but looking at this seems much more elsewhere what the best item this or one in the link who mention about $30 discount, what are the difference i believe they are both good in there own way but is one newer tech what does one do other cant.
Whats the best buy here and will it work with and brand tv.
        Dont know if i want?

        • The ct80 is $85 while this is $162 so that's the biggest difference.
The CT80 is optical only (no HDMI)
The XT1 is meant for those with space constraints
The CT80 has a separate sub
