[RESOLVED] Downloading from Google Drive - Troubleshooting Help Please

Hi all,

I was kindly lent access to the public google drive of a guy who had a wealth of ebooks, mainly pdfs stored on his google drive.

Google Ddrive allows me to download in bulk selected files, and I've chosen all the folders (and therefore ebooks containe dwithin) as to save it one by one would be too much an effort (books total about 1gb+ so you can imagine)

The weird thing I can't figure out is once it downloads into an archive, I can't unzip it. Winrar just pops up with a box about there being no files in the zip to be unzipped or something along that lines? No matter what I try it refuses to see any files for unzipping. If i click into the archive i can see the folders and files, I just can't extract or click to open them as it then fails…

Given I can see all the folders, ebooks and files in the zip, and the properties of the file clearly indicate there is over 1gb of files there I am at loggerheads what the problem is?

Is this a problem with google drive, or something that I am just not aware of that I need to do to get it to work? Would be great if anyone can assist, it'd save me a world of time than my last resort which is to just go in and save each file one by one….

Many thanks!

  • Additional info based on my response to another user elsewhere:

File type: Shows up as "WinRAR ZIP archive (.zip)" when i right click archive file, select properties.

Program I'm using: winrar for unzipping

Do i have good internet: I believe so, I use Iinet – it gets the job done without any issues? I download files all the time. I also note the zipping issue seems prevalent whether i zip up a whole subfolder in his google drive i.e. a few files/books, or whether i choose to try and zip up his whole books collection of folders and files which total above 1gb? So if it was a size issue then the smaller zip would have been fine I'd think?

I just checked how the probem shows and as soon as i try to extract the winrar diagnostic message box gives errors for each file:

"Filepath xxxxxx/ Cannot Create "book name.epub"

The system cannot find the path specified."

    And repeats for each file…

  • +2

Come-on just keep it consolidated on whirlpool

  • Did you try 7zip? It may be worthwhile to download it again.

    • Not yet… but Winrar is never been an issue… so i don't see why this one thing would be related to software used??

I downloaded one or two diferent archives as i thought maybe the first one didn't download completely overnight.. all were the same unfortunately? :(

      • Interesting, i stand corrected it now seems to be unzipping! Incredible.. first i seen of this!
