Amazon Pickup Points - Save on Shipping?

I received Amazon's email about Pickup Points now being available in Australia

I was like woohoo, cheap shipping! Then I tried it out with what was in my cart and found the shipping was very similar (less than a dollar difference)

Has anyone found the shipping actually reduced when they tried out a pickup point?

    I think there was $2 difference, but it is the convenience of picking it up at your own time. Rather than waiting around for the courier to come and leave a missed delivery card.

    I'm wanting to buy some books but the shipping costs over $40 for 4 books! Does Amazon often do free shipping on books to Australia from the UK?
